More ideas that branch off pk'ing
« on: December 16, 2004, 12:34:51 am »
It seems like no one reads the pk forums anymore as much as we used to but anyways here my ideas...oh if any mods wanna delete the old thread I have in the pk\'ing forums go ahead I copied the stuff into this thread, I\'ll take another deleted thread...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In real life whats to stop you from attacking or fighting someone? It\'s the thought that that guy looks bigger and stronger than you. But how do you know? By looks...in real life you aren\'t going to tell someone, \"Hi, may you please tell me your stats.\" Therefore I propose an three ideas...that has to do with pk\'ing and stats...

First is that Planeshift does not give characters the ability to right click and see a persons stats or anything of that nature. The only way you could find out is if the person tells you. I think that would be a great pk\'ing supplemental. Its so apparent...if your not sure that you can fight the other guy, then don\'t. It would make you choose your opponents more wisely...

Secondly, you can\'t change your armour in the middle of battle, the only thing you can change is the weapon you yield, which I believe should take up one entire attack phase. Which is true because in \"medieval times\" you don\'t see people changing armour, it would be too difficult. This would also help so that incase a l33t player tries to look noobish with noobish armor and try to trick a noob into fighting him/her, then that l33t player would be stuck using that noob armour. Then in that case it would force the l33t player into wearing his l33t armour which would give noobs the heads up to determine what person they wish to fight...

Whenever someone fights a player that has less experience than him, the player with less experience gets to choose from a list of status reduction items. To make the fight more balanced. The amount of the reduction is proportionate to the amount of experience less he has. For ex:

Bob has 12,000 combat exp total
Mary has 6,000 combat exp total

Mary\'s list would come out:
\"Select Status Reduction for Bob::
Strength -6
Endurance -6
and so on...

If Bob has 1,000 combat exp total
Mary has 300 combat exp total
(Its still proportionate)
Mary\'s list would come out:
\"Select status reduction for Bob:\"
strength -7
Endurace -7
and so on...

No stat can ever go below 1...
That was just a sample, the devs can figure out any system they want to...

I know this was a long post but thanks for reading it, if you read all the way...

Already done :) You can read about the character and his background,  but not stats.

I agree, changing armour and to some extent weapons should be impossible when in combat.

No, the whole point of PVP is that it isn\'t balanced. If everyone was balanced then there would be no point in having the fight, because it would just turn into a \'who has the best weapon\' fight. The stronger player should almost always win as long as he uses his head and doesn\'t just stand there. :)

i dont see the point in changing stats to make a hardend warrior and and a newbie farmer even. It wont make it even, becuse things come into accout, save rolls, spell effects, etc

that idea was to counter-act the effect if and only if there were open pk\'ing areas without level restrictions or if someone wanted to have a handicapped fight...some people do like challenges...

If you want a handicapped fight then you don\'t use armour or certain weapons. Any open pk\'ing areas should allow players to fight with their real stats and not with some non-realistic modifiers. If you arn\'t strong enough or clever enough to survive in these areas then you either don\'t go into them, or you hire an escort.

maybe...but most noobs aren\'t scared of dieing anyways, they\'re so in noob stages that even if they died they wouldn\'t be losing anything valuable...

The ability to handicap fights in the arena would be cool though.

Players could then agree to fight without weapons or armour, and a weaker player could agree to take on a much stronger player if the stronger player\'s sheild hand was tied behind his back.

But open player versus player areas should certainly not use handicaps.  If a player who can\'t fight goes to an area where he can be fought, he should loose.  Otherwise there is minimal advantage in working towards a higher level character.

And i should add that (although its not completely on topic) if it was a battle between a mage and a rouge it should be equel chance. I used to play a game called KO(Knight Online, before it came p2p) and the both lvl 60 rouge vs mage battle never seemed to suprise me. Rouge used to 99.9% of the time win. :O

So i do hope that even if u are a merchent you should be able to at least put up a fight 8)
