How to handle pking theiving etc.
« on: December 18, 2004, 07:08:22 am »
I believe that pvp combat should be as realistic as possible.  If you brutaly murder someone in the middle of the wilderness, with no witnesses there is a random chance (1/25 pretty low) that some \"clue\" will be found and gaurds would be sent after the perpentrater.  There persistance would depend on the fame of the victem and the sevarity of the crime.  If a person witnesses a murder, he can go into a town and tell the gaurds and recieve a small reward.  There should also be a bounty office which would pay awards to the person who aprehends and/or kills the perp.  If captured alive, either a period in jail (which would degrade skills and cause you to lose all items in your inventory) plus a fine of 5000 plus twice the value of all the items that the person looted from the corpse.  Eventualy, the heat would die down and the bad guy would go free.  So what do you think?

it is all a good idea besides the losing the items the fine and the fine for the item\'s you stole. also i would think that the guards wouldnt care if u killed someone in the wilderness .

This question is best posed to a person who would like to play as a thief.. though I can\'t think of anyone at the moment.
Jail Time ingeneral seems to be something most players don\'t want etheir valuable time wasted in.
I like taking things literally, going overboard is fun! Now... why do I keep getting odd looks?

the charactor would spend no real time in jail, he would just be teleported to the nearest one and given the skill decreases

I think if the crime is bad enough they should spend some real time in jail.

Error!   If you can read this your computer has been infected with the \'Stupidity Virus\' . Enjoy!

having to spend real time in jail is the stupidest thing ive ever heard.  People will just leave there computer on and go do something else and it will be no more than a nuisance.

Sounds like a good idea.

I don\'t think that jail time should reduce skills though, that\'s too unfair.  Inventory loss could happen, but not all the items should go.  Jail time should be long enough to break out and avoid the penalties (eg. 5-13 minutes).

i think a skill decrease would be good. and jail time would also be good beacuse you could talk to other people in jail and they could tell you intereting stuff like a quest or where a weapon stash is.

Isn\'t it a little harsh to reduce somebody\'s skills ?

They were, after all, only role playing.  By all means give skill decreases for swearing in the chat, spamming, scamming and being a pain, but not for roleplaying your class.

Skills should be something that once mastered cannot be taken away (unless they SLOWLY reduce over idle time)

but they are roleplaying, the skill decrease would only if they were caught

Can you give an approximate amount of game time in jail we\'re talking about here?  That might help the take skills or not decision.

I personally am against it to a degree.  If skills must go down, only very slightly, because it would take a long time for someone to lose the knowledge that they worked so hard to gain unless they actively tried to forget.

Maybe a greater skill decrease would be an appropriate punishment for a normally good and famous guy who killed someone for no reason.  It could help keep good people from breaking character.
