When people came to MB and shout in their own language everyelse shout \"IN ENGLISH PLEASE\". I understood that and I saw some people who were really unpolite by shouting you must write in english. I know what you feel when somebody criticize you in public (shout).

SO IM REALLY ABSOLUTLY AGAINST THE IDEE OF VORBIDDEN SOME WORDS ON THE SERVER. If there are swearing for example and too many violent languages there are GM to ban or kick the unpolite persons. I dislike your idea : if you wanna rping you can. If you wanna help or speaking about todays things I hope nobody will ask you to shut up because of some rules...

Your focus is really on the newbee word... strange... What did Freud tell about that? ;-)
What I really hope is that there won\'t be people insulting others... cause I really won\'t agree with that... I saw people on MB server that really had luck there was no GM on MB...

Problem is that when someone is RPing and another one isn\'t it\'s very irritating.

This is an example:

Quote

PersonX: Hey n00b!
--
PersonY: what did you say? (RPing becuase his character don\'t know the word n00b)
--
PersonX: I said n00b!
--
PersonY: What does that mean?
--
PersonX: Don\'t you know that? OMG You\'re an idiot
--
PersonY: What the hell are you talking about? What does OMG means?
--
PersonX: HAHAHAAHAHA
--
PersonY: You\'re crazy

You\'ll get conversations like this, becuase I\'m gonna act as my character. And when I see crazy people I will just ignore them.

OOC mixed with RP is just not gonna work :(

the one who said Hey newbee is dumb

and the other is dumber to answer ! ;-)

If you wanna rping no problem say : sorry but I must have sone dust in my ears... (I\'m RPing : so that\'s you the idiot... lol) :-P

Maybe people should just have optional filters to filter out words they dont like. Excessive swearing was the only thing GMs were meant to act against wasnt it? and maybe verbal lharrasment and abuse.

In terms of roleplaying, wouldnt a world as large as yliakum have lots of different dialects which could have words like noob and leet in them?

and than?
You\\ll get sentences like: you\'re a ****, but than you dont know whats on the **** but all others do.
Than you dont know what they did call you.

Maybe some people dont want to hear what they are called?

But it would look funny if you had a filter on and you saw ********************** or something.

I dont know, it just seems funny that people are worried about seeing the word n00b or l33t in planeshift. Words like those and swear words are just something that people will live with i guess.

I hate to say this  but if the game becomes successful whit I would imagine a free mmorpg will there will be allot of people coming from other games.  They will use the terms and language they are accustomed to.

The only way to thwart the use of these slang words is for the entire base community to let people using these terms know that they ar not accepted within the context of the game.

I would also like to see a filtering system that could take words like n00b and change them into words such as foreigner,  much like they do with everquest on this forum.

Another useful thing would be to convert real life profanities into more amusing or game/character appropriate curses.  It could even do this randomly.

Changing a well known explicative like the f-word into something funny or even replace it with another word from the dictionary randomly would cause people to choose their words more carefully.

This topic looks like it is going to fruit some good ideas.

How about a RP only chat channel?  I think that would solve a lot of problems.  Those that have connected to the RP chat channel can only see those that are talking in the channel.  You can switch back and forth as you like.  Does that sound like a good happy medium?

instead of making a new chat or making a filter, make a server meant for and only for RPing and have another server for OOC chatting.  This is just a thought though.

The devs don\'t want to split the community up like that, arlodetl.

Merc: Chat filters won\'t be that strict, so don\'t worry. :P

I think the idea is that the entire game is mean to be for role playing.  As for splitting the channels up into RP and non-RP, it still wouldnt stop idiots from saying things in the RP channel.  I think a filter that changes offensive words into something else would be good.

Yes I like this idea BUT who is to say that a new server will be available.  I am going under the assumption of the original developers game model and that is there is only one server as of now.

Well most of you seem to believe that n00b is a word for newbis, but it isn\'t.

newbies are people who are not used to PS, n00bs are braindead idiots who don\'t knw where they are.
I want to be a flame, to crumble to ash, but never ever burnt.

I want to rise higher, rise up to the heavens, but sink, just sink down deeper and deeper into nothing,

I want to be an angel, a chosen, a devil, but I am just a creature that ever wants what it wont get.

I all for removing leet-speak and Reallife topics, but i have a problem with banning the common abbrevations like lol, rofl, etc. They are needed to have a halfway decent conversation speed. I dont think you want to spend minutes on a 10 sentence conversation.

I also have a problem with people who overact in the other direction. For example the talk-like-old-english-but-not-quite people. You have to remember there will be a lot non-native english speakers around. They often have enough problems with modern day english. There is no need to make playing extra difficult for them.
