An Asian Feudal Place
« on: December 21, 2004, 07:45:24 am »
Okay so, since this game is supposed to be in the \"medieval\" time I was thinking that also Feudal Japan also existed why not have a place where you get weapons like \"different\" weapons. Like (okay I know this will sound unintentionally cheesy), samurai swords, and katanas. I always here everyone wants to have a katana well then here it is... hehe yeah just an idea...

I mean okay I can so imagine Grono wearing this if she went to that feudal area. Even though I wouldn\'t really know what she would wear... Okay I know its from Final Fantasy X-2 but just bear with me...

If the game ever gets that large, MAYBE they will. By the way, direct linking to that website doesn\'t work, that\'ll have to navigate to the multimedia section from the main page and click on the 2nd rikku picture.

I beleive Uncharted Waters - New Horizons (snes game)  did such a thing.. but then again, there was a whole world to explorer =)

Katana\'s may be long, but they are most likely lighter then a broad sword. They just need to becareful on how they swing.

Claymores get that big. A 5 foot Katana would be VERY large for a Katana. When Katanas are huge like that they are commonly called Dai-Katanas, but that term isn\'t really correct, they\'re considered different weapons.

Yeah Katanas, I played UO where they have katanas, and that\'s not all, now they went loony and created samurai/ninja expansion..  :D

It\'s not bad to have Katanas.. since there are very specific european weapons in PS, why not have very specific asian weapons in PS??

Katanas available in some areas could work, but we risk turning the game into an \"asian feudal place\" as suggested by the title.

Perhaps something carried by a few npcs in the far-off corners of the land might work, but tying the game to a particular place in the modern world is not something that we should do.

That would be cool.

However, something must be done to limit the number of katanas seen on the streets daily.

Edit: ...and oh yeah, we\'d need a middle-eastern place too.
Gotta have my scimitar.

The key to manipulative bargaining is to ask for something twice as big as what you want, then smile and nod when you are talked down to your original wish. You are still young, my apprentice, and have much to learn in the ways of the force. -UtM

Can\'t we just have weapons from around the world from that period of time? Each weapon have their own advantage, katanas are fast.. but can\'t say much about their durability.
Since I am suming the entire world is too much a burden, perhaps 1 city for each sub-contenant will do.

Well if a TON of different swords were included it would be OK, but it\'d take a while to get them all in game. Im mean you\'d need Cuchillo Gauchos, Cutlasses, Daggers, Daos, Dirks, Epees, Espada Anchas, Fencing Foils, Foils, Flamberges, Jambiyas, Nihantos, Pesh Kabzs, Piha Kaettas, Katars, Kards, Kaskaras, Katanas, Ke Tris, Kerises, Khanjars, Kiems, Krises, Koummyas, Kukuris, Short Swords, Long Swords, Rapiers, Sabres, Scimitars, Shamshirs, Stilettos, Stilos, Takoubas, Tsoubas, and Wakizashis, just to name a few.

Sorry for the massive list, but its the only way I can get the point across that it would be a HUGE amount of work to include all of the weapons of different ethnicities.

a sub-continent would do nice but as heading of this thread reads ,\"An Asian Feudal place, so it\'d be more like one small city or large city or a secluded area...where they don\'t like to be disturbed by the rest of Yliakum...

Bah, just make a weapon that looks similar and call it something else.

A Katana is basically a long sword with a slightly curved blade, sharp on only one side, with a small or no crossguard.

Its not like its a great design that only certain people with extremely intelligent brains can think of.

Well when you think about it Yliakum was created with no knowledge of other Caves in the area and it was populated by inhabitants form other places via the portals.
so we can infer that when humans came to Yliakum they brought their technology with them as well as their languges and cultures and the same would go for other races as well. Also they would have naturaly seprated themselves by their orgin preety much along time ago, so katanas, other strange weapons, livestock, and crazy towns and citys are explainable ...

and as an asian i dont really like the name \"An Asian Feudal place\" it sounds cheesy ... very cheezy, so very cheesy it becomes insulting.

besides why not concentrate on weapons other races have or might have brought over instead what humans have got and use ?

I\'m also half asian but I only used the term \"A feudal Asian place,\" because I didn\'t want it specifically be Japanese. I mean I like Japanese things a lot, lot, hella lot, like the you know.........................
