Starting stats
« on: December 21, 2004, 04:48:11 pm »
First of all, hello to everyone. This wil be my first post in this forum of, i hope, many more to come.

Now on subject.
Does anyone know if the starting stats posted in the races overview is final. Some of them looked a bit strange.

For example: In no rpg i\'ve played have elves had that much END (con?), the description also said they should be les robust then humans <55. The same goes for the klyros. In turn the nolthrir (elves (or mermaids) are generally not that ugly in rpg\'s/stories) have the same CHA as the dwarves and the kran, and even lower then for example the enkidukai or the klyros. Also the lemur (\"amongst the most beautiful of Yliakum\") have a bit of a low CHA compared to the klyros.

The rest of the stats seem ok to me.

Endurance doesn\'t equate *directly* to constitution, nor does charisma equate *directly* to beauty.

Endurance is a major part of constitution, sure, but it\'s just one aspect of it.  For instance, if a 5\'2 person who weighs 100 lbs can maintain their peak pace for 30 minutes, they still aren\'t nearly as robust as a 6\'4, 210 lb person who can do the same.

And beauty when it comes down to it, can even be a penalizer for charisma, if combined with the right personality traits, such as haughtiness or conceited...umm...ness.

I sounded smart until that last sentence. >.<

Well......

If you would say that Elves are Ugly, I agree. (but that is just a personal oppinion, as we dwarfs may have in this free land ;-) ).

But to be serious. You try to compair one game with the other, and one Elf race with another. That\'s wrong. Different games means different Settings, with different looks stats and so on. (that JR tolkien worked out a verry detailed history about elves, it doesn\'t mean that all elves ever imagined would be like that.
I love the Idea, of taking fantasy chars, and made you own story about them. In that case, you have something orriginal, and would Planeshift become something like \"An Original\" game.....not \"Just-another-copy-clone-with-different-graphics\". :)

(besides that; stats like \"intelect\" for dwarfs will be used for magical ways. If you wanna play a dumb dwarf, you can do so. (Roleplaying can solve that problem. A good Roleplayer can customize his char much better than any stat will ever be able 2 :! ).

We live in Yliakum. The world is there. We are there, and we have to accept those facts. So if the Elves in our world are Big Ugly monsters :D we can do nothing than trying to live with that.
Besides, GworthoX only knows what he sees. I don\'t no other Elves then the ones in Yliakum.

You have to remember that this is not one of your typical D&D/Warhammer/Forgotten realms RPGs. PS has it\'s own set of rules, and stats you find in other games don\'t necessarily work as they do in PS. Like Typhorean said, endurance isn\'t exactly constitution, and Charisma is more of a mental stat. Besides, stats aren\'t to be taken too seriously. If you do that, it\'s no longer an MMORPG, but just a MMOG. If you wish for your character to have charisma, play it so, and if not... Then be a jerk. That\'s what makes it a RPG. :)

We really shouldn\'t be trying to follow other games and stories- we are (hopefully) too good and too creative to follow other games and steal their pre-stolen ideas.

So why not have elves that, while beautiful, are selfish, aloof and vain and so are not well liked by the other races?

Lemurs seem like their aristocratic manner would make them seem selfish to other races.

Elves in Planeshift could have strong magical roots, requiring masses of willpower to cast and maintain spells.  When not casting magic they could use this willpower to work themselves harder, so increasing their endurance.

Nolthrir are beautiful, very beautiful but hey are not used to people, Damn Planeshift is not a office where the bigness of,... well I should rather shut up

And well remind legolas in LOTR and Gimli hunting those orcs (Uruk Hai!), Legolas hadn\'t any problems to run across any terrain while Gimli had pretty much lol

will we be adding some points into the stats already there like in the MB creation process, or will those be the stats that every character of that race will start with?
See you in CB

There will be lots of options during character creation that will affect your starting stats, although there won\'t be a stat selection process. It all depends on how you make your character, and how your character\'s childhood has been, and so on. :)

hmm well new to the game so haven\'t really looked at the stats as in comparing them to the story told about them, but although I agree the elves in planeshift don\'t have to be the same as in other games stories or whatever making sure the stats reflect the story around them on the planeshift site themself is a must in my opinion.

but I\'m sure the creators feel the same about that and only stray when a bit of diversity in the strats is needed :)

Will we have to re-create our characters for CB?  i know we have our character\'s names \'reserved\', but can we change their stats and stuff in the new version or change the race?  i didnt take the character creation very seriously in MB is just chose some random skills.  If the creation process is really different know then i suppose we will have to.

The only thing that is reserved is the name of your character. You still have to create and setup the character from scratch otherwise. NOTHING from MB will be there. Only the name (and possibly trias+ring you earned from crystals).
