how much faster is cb?
« on: December 23, 2004, 02:19:35 am »
since the testers are working with what is now a production model of cb, i\'ve got a question.

among the things that had been mentioned about cb is that the crystal space engine is being tightened up, and various other optimizations.

i looked aback about a month or so and i couldn\'t see anything about this. or at least it is non-obvious.

so how much faster is cb over mb?

i\'m not looking for a preciese figure. more of an approximate kind of thing.
may laanx frighten the shadow from my path.
hardly because the shadow built the lexx.
the shadow will frighten laanx from my path.

Connection-wise, I don\'t think CB uses much more bandwidth than MB does. Graphics-wise, the lag has been reduced quite a bit. Hydlaa Plaza is still pretty choppy if you\'re looking towards the rest of the city, but that\'s understandable. As far as I know, those \"lag-holes\" that existed in MB are no longer a problem in CB. Thank god for that eh! :)

Oh, and CB uses alot less RAM now, too.

Good stuff, keeping things smaller in the ram allows you to load more content!

\"Oh, and CB uses alot less RAM now, too.\"

thank god for that!  I run it on my 512mb ram computer and i still get \"windows has run out of vitrual memory\"  :O
how powerful do they think our computer are?  Quite ironic though, the min specs getting lower as the game progresses.  However, i know how hard it is to get good optimised code when your running 3D environments, so well done for making it better.

u can make your VM better.. (Virtual Memory)
here are a few easy steps..
(if u can read and make sence of it, then ur lucky)

step1:Find the \"my Computer\" icon (usually on desktop or in start menu on OP: Xp) and click \"Propertys\"

Step2:Click the \"advanced\" tab and under \"performence\" Click Settings then click on the \"advanced\" tab

step3:Change the setting to custom and add in the highest number under \"max\"

Click set
then apply everything and your done!
just restart your system and it will run a bit faster.

This may only work for Windows XP and ME i have no other Systems to try it on atm.
good luck

well thats interesting, because i always did that.  However a friend told me that strangely enough, windows dosnt pay any attention to what setting you have virtual memory on and just manages the virtual memory itself.  Apparently the slider bar is just like a placebo extra something to make it look like you can do it yourself.  Obviously its a bit hard to know unless you work for microsoft, i just thought that was really strange.  Anyway the game runs fine, i just get an annoying message and icon in my tray, alerting me to the fact im supposedly out of memory.

Here is another tip: Delete pointless or unwanted media, applications, old files, spy ware, add ware, exedra as all this takes up space in you computer\'s memory.
