(Graphics Problems) Spare a thought for one who can't play cb
« on: December 25, 2004, 08:50:55 am »
Just downloaded the client and installed it on my laptop, with a grapics card that doesn\'t support open gl. The processor is 2.8GHz, so \"Safe Mode\" in mb worked fine. Problem is with CB I can\'t see anything but the background. Any ideas? - I\'
ve been waiting for a release with combat for over 2 Years and when it come I can\'t play it !

Here\'s a screenshot of loading, going fine.

And here\'s one of the play screen

Your help would be greatly appreciated, if nobody has any ideas I\'ll have to get a new system.

Thanks

I hate to say it, but it\'s probably high time you got a new system if your GPU doesn\'t support OpenGL... =(

You could try using an OpenGL emulator like Mesa ( http://www.tux.org/pub/X-Windows/mesa/Mesa.html ). That MIGHT work for you. Don\'t get your hopes up though, emulators are sort of imperfect most of the time. You\'ll have to figure out how to compile Mesa and set it up, which I can\'t help you with since I\'ve never used it. You might also be able to find a more up to date OpenGL emulator if you look around harder than I did. Good luck! =)

Huh?

i have the same problem, except there are cutouts for where the text should be (so i can actually read it, though it still looks very bad and was told that it would produce problems in the game by acraig)

This seems to do with alpha text problems in openGL. The CS developers fixed this exact same problem once before, which worked for the vast majority of people. If you have this problem, please put down your Gfx Card and driver version so we can report it to them.

So is there no \"Safe (Slow) Mode\" in cb?

Tried Mesa with no luck, but thanks for the idea.

Pity I can\'t upgrade my graphics card, if nothing else I\'ll have to build another desktop for gaming - but my laptop is only 1 year old :(

I\'ve had almost the same problem.  I have a perfect looking menu save for the fact that there are no words on it.  I used a different computer that worked to see what buttons I needed to push to start the game on my computer.  The game will run, but no words are present there either.

Averatec laptop
Model #AV5500
AMD Mobile Sempron 2600
Windows XP
Graphics card is a SiS integrated ultra 256 with 128 meg shared video ram.
768 meg ram (minus video ram)

The driver version is 6.13.0010.1061

I ran mb with this card too with no problems, and that was before i updated it.
