Shift-Key not working
« on: December 26, 2004, 11:07:22 pm »
Hi, my shift key doesn\'t work in PS. :D This is really a pain, since I can\'t make capitals, or @ symbols, or use run. It\'s really odd though, since I have a standard microsoft keyboard, and with the hundreds of demos of games I\'ve played, you\'d think I\'d have encountered this before if it was the keyboard\'s fault.

I searched for shift-key problems and found none on these forums, so if anyone has a clue why this is happening(or can point me to another thread), thanks.

I have:
AMD Athlon 2000+(1.7ghz)
GE Force 2 MX400 (64mb)
512mb ram(333mhz)
Win98 SE
a \"Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard\" according to the my computer hardware panel.

While I\'m at it though, I think I\'ll ask another question so I don\'t waste threads. I keep getting linkdead after like 3-5 minutes connected to the server. It was quite fun logging in 10 times and rushing through char creation, not reading  the background stuff, just to get into the game, then shout \"how do i run if my shift key doesn\'t work/\" and go linkdead before getting a response.

I opened up port 7354 on my router and told it to forward to this computer, so...rather than look through a linkdead thread years old with countless pages, anyone know the answer? :P

Hmm.....I was talking with a GM(\"tang\") and he told me to post this too - my Kran is too big to fit through the door of the tavern, and too big to go up stairs.

Also, I don\'t know if this is a bug, but when I fell off a 1-story building I lost somewhere around 140 health and died. This is a pain, since if I fall 2 kran\'s distance, I lose 50-70 health.  ;( Not very durable.

Oh yeah, and when Tang pushed me through the door of the tavern, I fell through the bottom of the world and died. :D

Oh, and this might be a forum bug, but if you type ) nothing happens, if you type \" ) nothing happens, but if you type \" ) without the space you get a smiley. \")

Well, mine doesn\'t work, too. I, however, blamed my extremely crappy system for that (I have a lag of 1-2 seconds for each char I type! :) ). I use to work around this by using the caps lock key (doesn\'t reduce the lag, of course ;) ). Might be a W98 specific problem.

The simplest things are sometimes the hardest to see. :)

moogie, run is defaulted to shift, and i\'d like to keep it there cause its comfortable (i\'ve played alot of fps games).  typing is not the only thing shift if used for, not to mention using capslock generates twice as much work, especially when the shift key should work in the first place

I have two installations running PS, the one with WinXP has no problems with the shift key, yet Win98 does.

Each installation uses the exact same hardware and both are fully updated, so it sounds like a Win98 bug.

You could always use auto-run to run about, which is what I do.

Good idea, but I also have a problem that if I hit a new zone with autorun on, the game crashes 70% of the time.

Moogie\'s CB FAQ
27. Help! I can\'t type the @ for my username in the game!
For those using Azerty keyboards who are unable to type the @ character, try Alt + Ctrl + 2. If the key combination fails, go in the main planeshift directory and open planeshift.cfg. Edit the line that looks like \"Planeshift.Connection.User = m_y@email.blah\" to include your email address.

On an interesting note, none of the key combinations work for me. :D Then again, I have a qwerty.
