CB only running in 256 colors
« on: December 28, 2004, 11:35:31 pm »
Hiya, the only possible way i can run any application in the PS directory is in 256 color mode with the compatibility thing.

I have all my drivers up to date and i have directx to the fullest also, i got my music turned off and i managed to update the client trough the updater after half an hour of messing with it because it was unreadable :P

so i wonder if there is anybody that has this problem or if anybody has a solution.

What do you meat the updater was unreadable ?? Try turning off the font smoothing in winXP. But honestly i don\'t know the solution to your problem.

with unreadable i mean the game isn\'t meant for 256 colors, the background has alot of dark colors which are replaced by black, the text it black also so it\'s hard to find out, alot of the colors are replaced by black or purple so it\'s really hard to find out what the updater tells me.

but i\'m able to update so that isn\'t a problem. being able to only use 256 colors is.

yea i have the same problem, did you by any chance read my thread about chaning it to 256 colors? I posted that a couple of days ago and I wondered if anyone else had the problem. The problem was is if I didnt put it in 256 colors windows would come up with an error message and make it shut down.

This is what we see:

I also labeled thing incase anyone else was having the problem and couldnt figure out what each thing did.

Even though I got this working Im still having a bug when I try to join the game (world loading screen, right after I hit Join Game)

Mine is doing the same thing. It runs like that in 256 colors, because I tried to see if it would look like that. But then when it\'s normal, I can\'t read anything. There are just boxes, and no words at all. WHAT COULD BE DOING THIS?!

According to the pic (ugly dithering and standard colours) I\'d say it\'s a 16 colours mode rather than 256. But that won\'t solve your problem anyway, sorry for that pointless comment.

No, that\'s 256 as there are multiple shades of purple and green...ish. Actually looks kinda like 32 colors :P

EDIT: upon actually chacking i found that it is more precise than 16 color, but still doesn\'t look like 256.

OK, this is a wild guess: try setting the hardware acceleration for video to none. This will make it slow, but it might get rid of the color problems.

Is it by any chance that you guys have it in 16 bit mode instead of 32?
And by \"it\" I mean your screen settings

Crystal Space works really bad in 16 bit mode
