The Big Problem
« on: January 02, 2005, 08:17:28 pm »
First off i just want to say i am impressed. A free MMorpg and it looks neat. I love the style of it and it reminds me of DnD.

However there is a major problem, The game is becoming more and more popular but nobody knows what to do. Characters start off with nothing, there are no starting items. I guess this would be okay if you were, but you are not. BEcause of all this you will see players spread out everywhere wandering the city trying to figure out what to do, the chat window becomes flooded with questions like, \"where can i find monsters.\" \"how come there are not starting items\" \"what am i supposed to do right now.\"

THis to me is the games greatest flaw right now. Throw the new players a bone, get the started off, they need to know what to do, how to get money and weapons. Most players will spend a half an hour before finding out about the sewers or where to fight monsters.

I agree here.  There should, at the very least, be a small map at the start telling people how to get to the sewers.

Or, even less than that, telling em how to get to the tavern.
Night has come.  Will you fall to its blade?

most new players should know that PS is still in Alpha version, so don\'t expect too much.

And about the map; its no fun if everything is there for the grab. Exploring is part of the game, and finding the sewers and other nice spots are one of the few things todo atm. So don\'t spoil the \'things-to-do\' right away ;)

Besides that, searching the forums/ asking ppl nicely will always reveal some answers.

There are some players who always like to help, for instance Draklar or LordBug or others.

*Please dont get mad at me if I didnt call you*

Even I (joined yesterday) try to help, though I cant help out with money.

One of the biggest problem is that there aren\'t models for each Race/Gender, which makes it pretty difficult to figure out  if you are currently talking to a Nolthrir girl or a Ywwn one,

Yes I know that it takes time to make them.

P.S.: Does someone know what happens if several different face/body options come up, will we need to create a new character to get individual look?

Personally, I can live without a map. One thing that might be kinda nice though, is a simple compass.  :)

this game is exactly how it should be, it is in a early release so everything it is like should be expected. you are not players, you are testers. eventually the game will have better features and probably be easier to start. these people are nice enough to let us play this game, so don\'t complain unless it will help.

I\'m for maps, but not Diablo/Morrowind \'live\' maps. But more Gothic/Thief games\' type of maps.  In other words, you have to find/buy/search for maps for each area/zone. And even if you have them they do not display your position and are mainly very rough cut [like a drawing].  This also implies some areas won\'t have maps at all and other areas will have \'hidden\' maps.

Plus a nice twist i\'ve seen used was to have \'outdated\' maps.  Which show landmarks but not necissarily a building that was created after the map was made etc etc.

I don\'t think anything said on this forums can be seen as complaints if we\'re considered \'testers\'. Being so called \'testers\' implies that developers want feedback in some form. If \'testers\' remain silent and just go along , what do you think will happen when we become \'players\' . Should we wait and complain then? :P

i think that the cartography (sorry if i misspelled) skill should be making maps and sell them, the maps should be more accurate also depending how good one is at the skill

Aah yea, i like the cartography idea. I think it was in Ultima Online? You got maps of various \'levels\' and could only read them depending on your cartography skill. But i believe in UO maps were mainly used to find treasure [so you actually picked up treasure maps you could not read and had to find a cartographer to \'decipher\' it unless you had the skill]. This obviously had some implications like having to share treasure   with whoever decipered the map etc.

But yea, this will give the \'explorer\' type of gamer something to specialise in.
