Hmm I thought that was an XP bug. This fix is for Win98 and WinME with the broken updater. If this is what you have, You don\'t need to read it to do the hack in the folder. Check your video resolution. Maybe if you drop your resolution a bit you may be able to read it. No real need to read it if you followed the instructions, though.

password does not work for me

I experienced a similar problem with the password under Windows 98SE and IE6. I tried switching between a \"l\" and a \"1\" but that didn\'t help.
What did work for me was to copy and paste the password in. Even though you don\'t get the option when you right-click the field, you can still use Ctrl-v to paste it.
Something that many are unaware of is that many password routines would see the \"1\" on the numeric pad to be different from the \"1\" across the top number row. This is why cut and paste works I think.
Hope this helps.
When confronted by a difficult problem, you can solve it more easily
by reducing it to the question, \"How would The Hulk handle this?\"

There is another way to obtain these files.
This is done using the updater itself. Upon updating, the updater downloads each file individually, except so much of a set has changed that it downloads the entire zip. We all know that the zips stay in the PS folder to be unzipped manually.
However, the remaining files also get downloaded before the updater hangs. They are downloaded to a temporary file in the PS folder, which is called \"download.tmp\". This file is the most recently downloaded file, i.e., just what we\'re looking for. The only things the DOS-window does is:
- copy the current file to the folder \"updatertemp\" in the PS folder
- rename the \"download.tmp\" file to whatever the filename needs to be.

Now let\'s finish the theory and dive right in! :)

Start the updater in --auto mode (this is for convenience, the normal mode will also work, but you need to restart the updater for each file)
It\'ll update happily until it encounters one of the dreaded hangs. Now it asks what to do. Don\'t respond just yet! Instead, take note of the file it is currently updating (the last filename before the error message).
Now have a file manager handy (explorer will do) and copy the file \"download.tmp\" to a temporary folder. Now rename the copy to what you took note of (or look at the updater\'s window). It is important that you copy this file anew each time, and immediately once the error message is displayed, because otherwise you\'ll not get the correct file! Verify that the filesize that the updater shows is the same as the actual size of \"download.tmp\" (this may require to refresh the view in the file manager), at least approximately (due to the byte / Kbyte conversion factor of 1024 and rounding of the filemanager).
Afterwards, hit either \"Error\" or \"Abort\". The neat thing is that the updater will continue in --auto mode.

It\'ll likely encounter this issue on some other files as well, just repeat the process above and you\'ll get them all.
Once the updater is finished, simply copy all the files from the temporary folder into the PS folder, and you\'re done.

Note that it might happen that a file needs to be placed somewhere else: copy them one by one and see whether it asks \"overwrite?\": if it does ask, say \"Yes\", but if it doesn\'t ask, look where this file actually needs to be placed (use the search function of the file manager you\'re using). Also delete the file you just placed in the PS folder so that it won\'t interfere with later updates! However, this should be very rare.

Edit: Maybe you devs could make the updater do this automatically if a file couldn\'t be replaced, so that we just need to move them? Like creating a \"failedupdate\" folder and placing all files there, with the correct directory structure for easy movement? Just a thought. :)

I have a Win98SE, I played around with the video resolutions, but i still can\'t read it.

PS: I fixed the updater anyway.

Jagean: You most liekly have an ATI Radeon 9800 or similar? There\'s a problem with a .dll, see this thread:
http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=12854&boardid=33&page=3

eternity\'s_wings: What exactly did you do, and what exactly is the problem you\'re getting?

So has anybody actually got the updater working on Win ME?

I followed the instructions given at the start of this thread, but now the updater won\'t even start at all. I get the error message \"Updater has caused an error in GLWIN32.DLL Updater will now close.\"

Here is an another solution.(not tested with ME)

Just rename this list of files (for example csgifimg.dll to csgifimg1.dll)

libcurl.dll
glwin32.dll
csbmpimg.dll
csddsimg.dll
csgifimg.dll
csjngimg.dll
csjpgimg.dll
rendstep_std.dll
reporter.dll
stdrep.dll
libjpeg-cs.dll
libpng-cs.dll
libmng-cs.dll

Run the updater. After update you will have the renamed files and new files. Delete the renamed files. Run PS. Enjoy.

Another thing you can try is this:

click on start and select run

type command or command.com

it will bring up a command prompt

type;

c:\\Program Files\\Planeshift Crystal Blue

then type

updater --auto

this is a text only version and it has worked for me when the regular has failed.  If it downloads a new version of the updater, and it crashes.  Do as above and unzip the files from updater.zip into the planeshift folder. Then run planeshift --auto again

Try this if everything else didn\'t work for you.

glwin32.dll

Okay, first let me say that I am a techno caveman. But I have managed to fix the @ problem. I also have the updater problem. When I run updater it tells me my version is old. It then appears to download everything okay. It says that it updated the registry etc. At the bottom of updater you have the two loader bars. The first one completes its\' loading but that is where it stops, and I get the hanging command window.

I have followed all the steps mentioned in this thread. I have removed the old dll files, and downloaded the new ones into where I took the old ones from. I also got the glwin32.dll error message when I then try to run updater. So as suggested I renamed it to glwin321.dll. I still got the error message, just with the new name. So I thought I would try removing the new glwin32.dll file I downloaded, and put back the old glwin32.dll file and try again. All this did was again leave me with the hanging command window. Yes unfortunately I am using Me.

I have tried just running Ps without updating but is says that my version is too old. I have had the game since yesterday and I am yet to play it. Could someone please help me.

Thanks.

Oh, I also tried to do the unzip thing as well, but could not find the file mentioned in the other thread. I did find something similiar, it was just called updater and was a zip file, so I extracted it to the Ps folder. I am not sure if this was what I was meant to do, but it didn\'t work. So I am still stuck not being able to update or play.

Cheers
