Unbalanced mages
« on: January 05, 2005, 01:23:50 am »
While warriors have to be close mages just can get at safe distance smashing their bullets. So wide so good thats the point of magic.

But somehow it is annoying when someone challenges you targets you starts running and while he runs shmashes fireballs against you.

Mellee fighter dont even stand a chance to get them they just keep running, and letting their magic doing the rest.

So I would wish that mages have to stand still to cast a spell.

I want to be a flame, to crumble to ash, but never ever burnt.

I want to rise higher, rise up to the heavens, but sink, just sink down deeper and deeper into nothing,

I want to be an angel, a chosen, a devil, but I am just a creature that ever wants what it wont get.

I agree, this is slightly imbalanced.  Possible have mages run slower while casting spells(?).
Night has come.  Will you fall to its blade?

How about casting a spell while running makes you run slower, and also increases the chance of the spell failing? :)

(normally, i wouldn\'t suggest this, as i\'m a mage.. but even though i\'m a weird homicidal freak, i have a sense of fairness)

Are you nuts? Hae you even tried casting a spell yet?  First of takes like 5 secs to cast a spell and secondly you  fail like 90% of the time.

I have noticed mages spells being used to thier advantage in another way kinda like this. In the area there are those long walls seperating each of the spaces where monsters spawn.
I see all the mages go onto the seperation wall and just keep casting spells at the monsters. Its a free kill! They dont even get damaged one bit but they will kill the monster no matter what! There keeds to be a change to the magic system. You should have to be on the same elevation or somthing in order to use magic against the monster.

Thats true, but using spells against a monster doesn\'t lay claim to it like a melee attack, so it\'s quite easy for people to steal it from you (happened to me when i was fighting a gobble, but luckily the prat was killed :D).

@ Efflixi: yes, i\'ve tried casting spells, and i succeed most of the time, it helps to keep the power setting low until you have a few levels in the way :)

It would stand to reason, would it not? Afterall, the better you become at something, the less likely you are to fail. (I\'ve noticed it with mining)

Well thats true but normally i dont see the mages going to get the loot. They just stay on thier perch waiting for it to respawn. Now a days if you want money you go and mine not fight.

I think higher the magic power meter is up, the more it should take out of you and henceforth you should have to stop for a second to catch your breah. I mean if you did something to your body that was at the maximum, most likely your going to feel it and stop what your doing as a reflex. Mages aren\'t body builders, so I\'m sure that they wouldn\'t be able to drain themselves 4 times and not need to stop. So perhaps every 20% you slide the power meter up, half a second you have to wait. So at 40% thats a full second, at 80% 2 and an increase for 3 seconds when at 100%. This could be modified to adjust every percent instead so people wouldn\'t set to 99% but I doubt it matters much. What do you think?

yes, however mages do not drain themselves of power, they drain the Glyphs of power... but I do agree that mages should have to stop & concentrate a little before casting spells. I would think it takes a lot of concentration to cast a spess, defenately if you want to have it more powerfull. so I think mages should @ least slow down some when casting...

well, isn\'t mana/mp a reflection of how much power you can draw from magic?

I think there should be a maximum distance, even for spells. maybe the maximum distance can go up as u gain lvls in the way...
Talamir - DeT, Dark Empire, etc, etc, etc.
