Phew... took me a few tries to read that... some punctuation would help, Mr Crazy. :)

Anyways, yes, there are absolutely no viruses, spyware, adware, or any *ware in PS.

Your computer freezing may be due to a problem with overheating. PS makes my CPU temperature rise by a good 7 or 8 degrees celcius, and it freezes when it reaches 64*c, so I have the case of my computer off and an electric fan blowing directly into it.

It could also be a hundred other problems, but with no information about your system, we can\'t help you. *hint*

If you\'re concerned about viruses, then how about getting yourself an up to date virus scanner and check for yourself, instead of trying to FUD PS? This is the second thread I read in that someone is denouncing the PS team of \"maybe spreading viruses, and even if by not making sure this doesn\'t happen, you know, my computer got infected and I recently installed PS...\"

This is total BS. The malware issue is exactly why I choose OpenSource only. You can\'t hide malware in that, as anyone can get a compiler and compile it themselves to see if anything is different.
Still I agree that there is a very tiny chance of viruses on the devs systems, just as on my very own system. That\'s why I routinely scan everything that doesn\'t originate from my own network before storing / executing it, PS and all it\'s updates included, and also run firewalls, personal and dedicated ones.

So if you\'re concerned, scan for yourself, you can always accuse someone after you found a virus. If you didn\'t find a virus, then why would there be one, assuming your scanner is up to date and set up correctly? The chance of getting unknown malware from an OpenSource program is very very slim indeed. In fact, it\'s way more likely to get one from Microthefts \"security\" patches.

As already has been said, your problems most likely are due to inappropriate cooling, hardware conflicts or bugs in either PS, your OS or any other piece of software on your system. Maybe from a virus or other malware, but this virus almost certainly (yeah, there is no absolute certanity, ever) has come from somewhere else, probably email...

And get a decent name.

Every time I open the updater or pssetup I get this;

\"warning Venus Spy Trap has intercepted a program about to run that could compromise your privacy \"

I\'m not saying this is a virus but maybe if I change the settings from my antivirus program it will not allow the updater to run because it thinks it\'s a virus.

This is a common issue with any antivirus software with active realtime monitoring (including the windows Service Pack 2 for XP)   THe biggest problem is that in order to create security with realtime monitoring, you almost have to assume all unknown programs are potentially viral or malware, until identified.  The nature of security, in fact, is to deny everything, then set up only the most secured services you actually need.  Thus the warning label

You\'ll find this on many systems for viral detection, as any \'unknown\' program is asked if it can be executed, and then warned that the thing may damage or destroy your computer system, because the program *DOESN\'T KNOW* what the heck it is.

And a database of all programs, md5sums, and lengths would probably take up almost as much space as the internet itself. ;)

Agreed. The only viable way is \"deny everything\" and selectively allow things. However, like a firewall, your program should have an option to allow PS to run and access the internet. You need to allow it for both the updater (updater.exe) and the client (psclient.exe).
Basicly, the scanner looks for instructions to connect to any remote system, and PS needs to have these. The program is quite correct in flagging PS as \"potentially dangerous\", but OTOH, the user needs to know that it does, especially as it will also have identified the browser as \"potentially dangerous\" initially. User education, or rather lack thereof, is the greatest security risk there is and ever will be.
I didn\'t see any suspicious traffic originating from PS yet, so I\'m infinitely more confident in regarding PS as \"clean\" than I\'d be in assuming this for the Internet Explorer, or Windows, for that matter.

My firewall blocks everything IE sends out. :D I don\'t even use IE, but it still notifies me every once and a while that IE is trying to connect out. Then again, this computer has loads of programs trying to dial out for no apparent reason. After I start up my computer my firewall blocks over 200 connections by the time it finishes loading stuff!

Really funny thing though is that all I have selected in msconfig is about 5 programs.

Oh, and I have Spybot S&D and Spyblaster, and a cookiemunching program and updated antivirus, so I don\'t really have a clue what\'s trying to connect so much.

Which reminds me, my antivirus scans all the executed programs before executing them, so I just start up PS and THEN shut down my antivirus(to conserve memory).
