Here is what I did:
1.) Downloaded and mounted the dmg file Planescape comes in.

2.) Copied the Planescape folder to my games folder.

3.) Opened the folder and ctrl-clicked on the file named \"psclient\"

4.) Show package contents

5.) Opened \"Contents\"

6.) Opened \"Resources\"

7.) Copied \"libcal3d.10.dylib\" to the desktop

8.) Made a folder called \"lib\"

9.) Put the \"libcal3d.10.dylib\" file into the \"lib\" folder

10.) From the finder menu-bar click on Go and then \"Go to folder\"

11.) type in \"/usr\"

12.) GET INFO on the \"local\" folder and go to ownership and permissions.

13.) push the Unlock button and change the owner from \"system\" to you. Note that you need to have the admin password to do this. Check Mac help if you don\'t know what I am talking about.

14.) Move the \"lib\" folder with your copied planeshift file into the \"local\" folder

15.) Change the owner of the \"/usr/local\" directory back to system and lock it up.

16.) Run psclient

I run a 1ghz G4 powerbook on Mac OS 10.2.8 and it looks fine other than what looks to be Beta-type glitches.

Now I need to find out where to get gold ore from.

Two things-
1- thank you for providing a clear step-by-step that a computer dummy can use
2- It won\'t let me open \'contents\' in step 5, the icon\'s all faded

Mac Client!! Great!!

Had the problem as first posted here but copied the file over the usr folder area and have had no problems with the program since.   Learned something new, that always helps. I also learned learned there was suppose to be a menu selector icon at the top of the screen.  But have discovered I can see them \"in the dark\" so to speak.  If I let the cursor linger of the area, I will get the name to appear.  It has functionality but just can\'t see it.

I think its wonderful to see something like this come out.  A few years ago, I saw something like this before.  I forgot the name of it, it was all text based and Romanish and such.  This just blows it away.  I own NWN but never bothered to go to their web site and try out the online version.  Not so intriguing, I suppose.  But this!  A virtual world, one in which (in the future) you could have a trade and own a piece of virtual real estate.  That\'s novel.

Everything looks great; the graphics, the movement and I don\'t ever have any trouble with FPS.  The lowest I\'ve seen is 50 and the hightest I remember was 200.

ATTENTION

This is about the mac bug!

All you people say to go to the \"/usr/local\" folder, and say to go to find folder, and I search the usr folder but nothing comes up! Even with searching I cant find it! So I try everthing, making files, moving files copying files, NOTHING WORKS!

OK! Jolly gave a step-by-step walkthrough for the angry Mac users. I thought finally i will be able to play this game! I did veeyrthing with out a problem and many smiles along the way! Then i closed out everything after i was done. I went to the my PS folder and clicked \"PSclient\"I was very excited at this point...The lil black outlines of the window pop up like its coming and nothing happens!!! Oh man i was disappointed! I didnt do anything stupid like on kid earlier, he said he got pissed off so he deleted it...*cough* dumass *cough*...Moving on, I would really like to play this game i have heard some really great stuff about it and there hasnt been a good free MMORPG for Mac\'s that i know of. If anybody has any idea! I mean any! Dont be afraid to just shout it out because ill try anything...

Great Thnx from a stupid newb :)

Yes, it is a known bug on all platforms....the only way is to restart the client.

I found another bug, really minor, but I don\'t know if it is only for the mac client or if it exists on other plateforms, so I post it here :
the command line /dequip item_name make the client to crash (whereas the /equip item works fine).

As I said it isn\'t a big problem, just reporting for the devs know it....
this apart, the mac client works well on my powerbook G4

To everyone asking for clarification, I don\'t think I can put it in much clearer than Jolly Crim\'s excelletn step by step guide.  If there is a specific step you are still having trouble with, please post the step and the problem and I\'ll help if I can.

The game is still early alpha I believe, so if you can\'t get in don\'t worry too much.  Right now the client gives us a taste of the game to come and the ability to help out more than anything else.

Is your color depth set to millions?  If not then try that, I remember reading about an issue regarding 24bit color.

Im running 10.1.5, and when I try to modify privilages to the /usr/local/, it wont let me as all the options are greyed out and there is not \'unlock\' option, so i cant create a /lib folder or copy the file to the folder. As there is only one user (me), I am already logged in as the administrator. Please help!

EDIT: Ok, i modifyed it through root, but it still wont work and crashes while its opening... The updater keep unexpectedly quitting too...

A suggestion!

Props to Almond for putting up those directions, and here\'s a hint that might help:

In the finder, if you use the \"Go to folder\" command in the Go Menu (between View and Window - I never use this menu), search for both folders (without the file name). I found that it was much easier locating the file if I searched for the directory it was supposed to be located in rather than the file itself.

Similarly, when installing the libcal3d.10.dylib file, you might want to make a new folder called \"lib\" on your desktop and then drag the folder to the usr/local folder. Then, choose to authenticate the option, and use your administrator password to allow it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To the developers:

Major props! The psclient sure is buggy, but I think the game looks great so far - from what I\'ve seen of it. It\'s encouraging to see that there are developers out there who are willing to make cross-platform games that don\'t cost an arm and a leg or two to play. Furthermore, this game visually is pretty impressive.

A few observations:
 - I just joined in recently, and the servers seem to be difficult to connect to; I\'m sure you guys are working on this and will be able to figure something out. I usually have to try to connect 3-4 times before being able to enter the game.

 - It might just be me, but for the Mac client, I can\'t see the buttons that should be on the top of the screen; I\'m clicking blind to find the various icons, so I\'ve been relying mostly on the keyboard.

 - Whenever I quit the application, the \"The application has unexpectedly quit.\" message comes up.

Otherwise, looks great so far!

Ok, so I\'m unbelievably excited at the prospect of a free, 3D MMORPG for Mac, but can\'t run the program.  I have faithfully followed all your guides, including moving certain files to certain folders, etc, but when I try to run the game client it crashes after about 2 seconds.  Even sooner than before I moved any files-- it used to load the title screen before crashing.  Perhaps it\'s just me, but I would really appreciate help as I\'m desperate to get started with this game!

Thanks,
D

EDIT:  Got it to work!  Just had to run the client from the .dmg file instead of the duplicate folder in my Applications sector.

>Im running 10.1.5

Have a quick look in the Player Guide, Bloopo: the Macintosh version of Planeshift requires Mac OS X 10.2.6 to run properly  ...

Aside from the official PS requirements, you should really upgrade to MacOS Jaguar or Panther. Even Steve Jobs recognizes that MacOS 10.1.x has been a sort of public beta for Mac enthusiasts  :)

> have faithfully followed all your guides, including moving certain files to certain folders, etc, but when I try to run the game client it crashes after about 2 seconds

Give us some details: OS version, Mac model and configuration ... Jolly\'s procedure has worked well for me.
It may be a files privileges related problem ...

Should be some fixes in the next week.
Thanks,
Daniel

please, omg please make a seperate file of the updater available for d/l when the prob is solved. another 270mb d/l on dial-up would be an overkill.
