Its great to see a mac MMO, especially a free one
anyways, i just downloaded the game. I got the 0.3.004 image from the apple download center, and i put the file from resources into the right files, and the game opens and stuff, but the verrsion wassnt recent enough, I tried the updater but it sat still for about 45 minutes So i went to the planeshift website and downloaded 0.3.006. the problem with it is that the updater and the program wont open and i cant figure oiut what to do
I\'m Running:
An iBook G4 with 768mb of RAM, 1.07GHz CPU speed, Radeon 9800 32mb VRAM
EDIT: OS 10.3.7

It really sounds like right now, your best bet it to wait until tomorrow.  DFryer says he\'ll have it up around then.

We should have a Mac Guild, since we\'re all getting to know each other!

I\'m getting a similar problem to Anyar, no matter how I try to load the updater or client I am given the \"Unexpectedly quit\" error.  I have tried through the GUI and through terminal with identical results.  But as dfryer is working on another fix I will patiently await such :-)

Oh and just to clarify, I have the newest version .0.3.006, downloaded it today, and ensured that the lib file was tranferred as per instructions from earlier on this thread.  So that issue has been resolved, I am hoping this is nothing more serious than the known issue with the vfs.cfg.  Keep up the good work Dfryer, and best of luck.

from the terminal:

This is the same problem that I and anyar have posted about and is likely a direct result of the problem with vsf.cfg that dfryer mentions earlier in the thread.  He is working on the fix for it, so options kind of come down to waiting for the fix, or rebuilding the file(which he shows you how to do on page 9, though it seems to refer to a different problem). Personally I trust dfryer to be able to fix this, and am patiently awaiting for his solution.

For those that are still having updater problems, I\'ve added some features and applied some small bug fixes to my UNOFFICIAL Java updater. Remember that it\'s unofficial and that I am in no way liable for what happens when you use it. Now, the updates/new features:

There\'s now an estimated time to update field (don\'t worry if it starts off with astronomically large update times: it uses average bytes/second (based off of how much has been downloaded so far over elapsed time) to calculate this time and if you start off slow you will get really long estimated DL times in the beginning). This should hopefully be useful to everyone, especially dialup users as it should give them a ball-park estimate of how long they\'ll need to leave their computers on.

I\'ve also re-enabled the ability to *try* to update individual zip entries (instead of downloading the whole package). As far as my testing goes, this does NOT work with Java 1.4.2. (the program will encounter a fatal error and quit when updating certain entries). So, unless you\'re on Windows (this thread is for Macs, so you shouldn\'t be :P , though the updater does work with Windows) or have the Tiger prerelease, I don\'t suggest you try it (I actually haven\'t tested it since 3.004, so the suspected corrupt entries may be gone now...). You can enable zip entry mode by launching the JAR file from the command line with the appropriate argument (cd to your Planeshift 3D folder in Terminal and launch with the argument \"zipentries\": \"java -jar Updater.jar zipentries\" ). Note that you can combine this command with \"nogui\" (order doesn\'t matter, just put a space between the two of them).

For those that missed the DL link two pages ago and are too lazy to go find it ( :P ), here it is again: Updater.jar (25k)

Remember that version 1.4.2 of Java or later is required (Therefore, Mac OS version 10.3 or later). Hopefully this will enable those without working updaters to continue playing PS till the updater bug is resolved.

Glad to help. :)
Remember to replace the contents of the vfs.cfg file with this one as dfryer instructed: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/planeshift/planeshift/vfs.cfg?rev=1.6&view=text
(And don\'t update again after that until dfryer updates the repository or the change will be overwritten;) ).

EDIT: As previously reported, neither updater nor client work, even with modified vfs file. I\'m getting a bunch of stuff ending with:
Code: [Select]
dyld: /Users/mdiamond/Games/Planeshift3D/psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient can\'t open library:
/usr/local/lib/libcal3d.11.dylib  (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

After moving the library I get a version mismatch error. :\\

Just to keep everyone informed, in addition to the vfs.cfg problem (which the user CAN solve) there is a bug in the current version of the client which causes a crash on loading.    This is waiting my recompile and update.

ALSO (interestingly enough) I changed the version of libcal3d without even knowing it, thanks for revealing this issue!  I\'ll make sure my install scripts are up to date (they\'re basically hacked together based on whatever caused problems in the past)

Thanks,
Daniel

I am totally lost here.  I know very little about computers but I\'m trying to get this up and running.  I managed to do the whole lib folder thing but I still can\'t get on.  I\'m clicking on the psclient application and it tells me that it quit unexpectedly.  Some specific help or being pointed to the post that will help me from where I am would be much appreciated.

Alright brand new to the game. I just downloaded the newest version last night and tried to install. Obviously it didn\'t work for many reasons that people have already listed, so I wont drive you guys nuts with listing them and posting error logs etc.

I\'m confused to as what we need to do right now. I\'m guessing that we just need to wait until dfryer makes the newest fix? Am I right or wrong? Just let me know.

Thanx a bunch in advance. This game looks great and I can\'t wait to try to out, but I\'m patient enough to wait. I know what a hard job this must be for dfryer to do this all on his own. Major props go out to him.

After installing PS on my linux box, battling it out with compiling, linking and weird libraries for a few hours, I certainly won\'t go near the PS code on a mac, even in a hazmat suit. Kudos to dfryer who does.
