Laanx is or was down, so there may availability issues for a little while.  (This would be why updater won\'t update & no server would be found)

I\'m also preparing an update, not sure when it will be ready.

Dfryer...sorry, looks like I was wrong.  Those lib files do not install.  I was under the impression they were because I didn\'t have to deal with it the last few times I re-installed.  Unfortunately, when I deleted the program and re-installed, I didn\'t delete the lib files to see if they would install.  I deleted this time and sure enough they hadn\'t installed.  Sorry, I misinformed you the first time.

Aramis.  As for the /sw folder.  Since you don\'t have one, then you can make one.  Go then to your Macintosh HD and create your path there.  Create sw, then create lib in that folder.

by the way i just downloaded the new version and when i try to make it executable from the command line it says permission denied. then when i tried to run the updater from the command line i got this error

You need to be an admin to do this.

shifthappens: your error is an odd one, and I can\'t understand what the problem is. As you\'ve said, it *should* be working. I\'d take a look at your internet settings and such to make sure everything is working correctly (no malfunctioning firewalls, etc.?).

dfryer: As shifthappens said, libcal3d.11.dylib still must be present in /usr/local/lib/ for the client to work. Otherwise, it gets to the startup screen, displays the splash image and plays the music, then quits \"unexpectedly\". If the library is present in /usr/local/lib/, it works fine, of course. :)

success im in. thanks everyone for your help. i thought it would be helpful (since im not so great at computers and i was able to get it to work) if i put a simple step by step walkthrough that even the newest users could follow. ok here goes.

1.obviously download the newest dmg from the website.

2.download choas updater from page 12 and update (should take about an hour)

3.on that same page chaos gives a link to dfryers new vfs file. go to the link and what i did is i just right clicked (or control clicked) on  the file and saved it to my hard drive

4.take the newly downloaded vfs file and put it in the planeshift folder replacing the old vfs file.

5.(heres where it starts getting a little complicated) open psupdater.cfg and change the word (code phrase) xmlread to tinyxml

6.go to terminal and type \"cd (make sure there is a space between cd and the /)/Games(or whatever the folder is called that you have planeshift is)/Planeshift\\ (again make sure there is a space between the \\ and the 3D)3D\" without the \" and the things in () and then press return

(optional)7.now type \".(yes that is a period)/updater.app/Contents/MacOS/updater\" without the \" and the things in () and press return which should open your planeshift updater and it will now work though if you already updated with chaos updater this step is really unneccassary

8.make sure youve done step 6. and now type \".(yes thats still a period)/psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient\" without the \" and the things in () and press return this should open planeshift which right now won\'t help you very much because its the wrong version and hopefully the new version will work without you having to do all this but you will at least be able to create a character

if you have any questions dont bother asking me because i have no idea why this works. all i know is that it does and that is the important thing.

Please, try to see if psclient works after step #5.  Adding additional steps might not be necessary and I would prefer to clear this up so that people don\'t endlessly copy libraries from place X to place Y when the bug has been fixed :)

ive been playing around with it a little bit and i found that if i just have the libpng12.0.dylib file in the sw folder then the splash screen comes up with the music but then crashes. if i only have the libcal3d.10.dylib and libcal3d.11.dylib in the lib folder then it doesnt even get that far. but i did find that the sw/lib folder is unnecessary you can put the libpng12.0.dylib file in the usr/local together with the other and it still works.

nope, the bug is still existent. furthermore the libpng12.0.dylib needs to be copied into /usr/local/lib too, since without it the game is unable to load any .png files.
my guess is that the mac dev set the linking variables for these two files wrong during compiling some files but i might be wrong.

Ok, i got the client to at least show up on the screen before it crashes.

Dfryer, I\'ve got fink installed and some librairies needed for my php5 compilation, so I didnt\' realise that there was a linking problem.
