I win the worst system specs contest! 667 G4 Tibook, and proud of it. :D Granted, I do have 1 GB of RAM, but I don\'t think that makes such a big difference. It actually runs fine everywhere except the central plaza...

Average fps (approx.):
Central Plaza: 2-8
Upper Hydlaa (near the really big tower): 10-20
Magic shop area: 25-40
Sewers: 50-60

The thing that most annoys me now (besides the no-fullscreen thing) is the black texture issues. We\'ve had these problems since the alpha and they just won\'t go away. :(

P.S. Just to make this clear, you can run my updater simply double-clicking. You only need to run from the terminal if you don\'t want the GUI, you want to try to DL the individual zip entries, or you want to download all files changed (even settings files, which will overwrite your settings).

EDIT: Those still having trouble getting Planeshift working, take a look at this: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=14416&boardid=33&styleid=3&sid=41d14fbbfdfa48aa7b2bf6ea4fd1b0d2

For people wondering why they have to run the updater after downloading the \"latest version\" from the website, the answer is simple:

What is on the website is not the latest version.  One day it will be.

I have found that since they relit the levels a few days ago my lightmap problems have disappeared (i.e. I can see my way out of the death realm)

I encounter random black textures pretty much everywhere, but that\'s not really a big deal. Specifically, my problem is if I don\'t start the game in Hyldaa Plaza or if i go to the sewers and come back, things start turning black (in the plaza). If I start in the plaza it\'s all good. If I come up from the sewers I can barely find my way around. As for the DR, there are a few black textures (most of the time stairwells and the bone bridge at the top), but it isn\'t a huge problem. Again, though, I have to say that I can live with all of these things as I\'m actually able to play the game! Thanks again dfryer for all the hard work! :)

to evil, chaos ses updater should have put those two files in your package contents. if they didnt i suggest maybe try updating again otherwise i dont know what to tell you.
to ergzay, i posted an in depth very simple walkthrough on the page before (page 15) with links to everything you need and explanation. if you still cant figure it out than i suggest just sit tight and wait for the next version that will do it for you.
to fib4, you dont have to create that new dir sw/lib you can put libpng12.0.dylib with libcal3d.10.dylib and libcal3d.11.dylib in usr/local/lib.

Dfryer, after downloading the most recent version, updating using Cha0s\'s updater, changing vfs.cfg, moving libcal3d.10.dylib, libcal3d.11.dylib, and  libpng.12.0.dylib my client finally works, which it would not do without going through all those steps, I tested it at each stage.  So I hope that helps.

sweet people helping out us Macusers...

I got as far as my terminal. After giving the several in this topic suggested commands the only respond I got was \"Command not found\"
I\'m giving up...

Unless someone- else has another idea, I\'ll probably have to wait until the improved version is ready.

Can anyone explain to me why the suggested fixes work on some Macs and not with others?

E.

For anyone able to run an updater, there is an updated client & updater available.  The updater has to be run from the command line in order to work.  This version *should* work WITHOUT having to copy libcal3d and libpng to funny places.  The executable bit on psclient is still not correctly set, hopefully that will be fixed soon.

Thanks,
Daniel

Updater still yields an unexpected quit and:
Code: [Select]

EDIT:
And the client still yields:
dyld: /Users/mdiamond/Games/Planeshift3D/psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient can\'t open library: /usr/local/lib/libcal3d.11.dylib  (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

:( :(

Is there a new vfs.cfg file, perhaps? (I have the one from the original link) Or is all of this code in psclient.app?

Got the same results as Cha0s.

Edit:  If it helps any, I got the program back to work after moving the files, etc...then found out my screen size had gotten smaller.  I\'m looking now in the thread to see how to make it larger or back to what I was use to.  I think it was 800 x 600?  In that neighborhood, now it\'s about a 1/3 smaller.

Please try deleting psclient.app and redownloading.  Perhaps something isn\'t coming through right?  I\'d be interested in your crash log, Cha0s or ShiftHappens.

To change your settings, edit planeshift.cfg with a text editor, there\'s a resolution and a fullscreen setting.  I think also by setting \"System.RunWhenNotFocused=true\" things will load while other windows are in front.  (Very handy for the updater, once it works for you guys!)

Thanks,
Daniel

I\'m suspecting a config or data file problem.
1)  Does your psclient.cfg contain these lines:
psclient.cfg:System.Plugins.iDocumentSystem = crystalspace.documentsystem.multiplex
psclient.cfg:System.Plugins.iDocumentSystem.1 = crystalspace.documentsystem.xmlread
psclient.cfg:System.Plugins.iDocumentSystem.2 = crystalspace.documentsystem.binary

2) and your psupdater.cfg contain this line:
System.Plugins.iDocumentSystem = crystalspace.documentsystem.tinyxml

3.) Do  updater.app/Contents/Resources and psclient.app/Contents/Resources both have a copy of xmltiny.csbundle & xmltiny.csplugin?

Thanks
Daniel

5. Change the contents of the file \"vfs.cfg\" (in Planeshift game folder) to the contents of this: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/planeshift/planeshift/vfs.cfg?rev=1.6&view=text
6. Copy the file \"libcal3d.11.dylib\" from client bundle \"psclient/Contents/Resources\" to \"/usr/local/lib\"

7. After that it still didn\'t work for me, so I had to copy the file \"libpng12.0.dylib\" from \"psclient/Contents/Resources\" to /sw/lib. (Actually, I had to create that dir \'cause It didn\'t exist)

This is EXACTLY what I\'ve done on my G4 (dual 1.25 OS 10.3.7 Radeon 9600) and it works :)

I run it at 1024X768@32 bit and it\'s pretty playable.

Here\'s a a screenshot:

http://pcristofol.spymac.net/contenitore_immagini/planeshift3006.jpg

The gamma is a lot better now (I\'m able to find my way out  from the Death Realm ...) and the framerate in the Hydlaa Plaza is almost acceptable ....

Oh, and the toolbar icons are visible!
