Must be the problem with the new update on the server.  I just got online with the program since yesterday and I have a crash log if any one wants it.  Too long to post here.

I\'ll try updating first.

when I start up the updater or the psclient, it says... (in terminal)

ERROR: csInitializer::SetupConfigManager failed!
Is your CRYSTAL environment variable set?
logout
[Process completed]

and bounces once in the doc

in other words, HELP

Try my updater first and after it\'s done updating ,try the normal one and see if it works.

oopssie, site fell down.

Did the update, swopped out vfs.cfg file and was running okay.  Saw a new creature, so I decided to check out character creation.  I accidentially quit the client and when I tryed to log back in, nothing.  Now the site reads:

XML error: no element found at line 1 @ http://laanx.fragnetics.com/chars.php

I swear I didn\'t do anything, I didn\'t touch anything.

I already ran the updater and used it, and my results were the same, also what do you do with the stuff that the updater updated?

*smacks forhead*
Run the updater from within your PS directory!!! I guess I didn\'t stress that enough in the guide... *sigh*
*goes to update it...

EDIT: There shouldn\'t be any \"stuff\" the updater updated. If the Updater is run from the your Planeshift 3D folder (as the guide said to do), all the files are put in their correct places automatically...

ppl, you don\'t have to create /sw/lib folders. just copy the libpng12.0.dylib together with the libcal3d.11.dylib into /usr/local/lib.
as far as i know, unix/linux systems look first in /usr then /usr/local for files if an app can\'t find them, following by other possible places such as /sw.

Cha0s, you have been a purveyor of good advice.  Thank you.

I decided to try both the PS updater and yours, just to see what happens.  Luckily, eveything works for me.

After updating the the PS updater, I re-ran it and got the \"all files up to date\" message.  Good good good.  WHen I ran yours, it insisted on downloading the following

art/world/podium.zip
art/world/akkaio.zip
art/world/arena.zip

and perhaps another one or two I missed.  Even if you run it twice in a row, it will re-download these.  I do not know why, but are you perhaps pointing to a file that contains characters currently in the arena or the \"podium\"  (what is that and akkaio, anyway?)

I\'m not complaining, I very much appreciate your work, just thought I\'d point this out.  I\'ve been using it and it works fine.  Thanks again!
~~
May all your sequences converge.

Can someone just post the text of the vfs.cfg so we don\'t have to rely on the stability of the sourceforge host?

I did. The top link to the vfs.cfg file in my guide is on my server....

buddha: The reason it does that is that the way that the normal updater and my updater check for updates are different. Out of curiosity, try running it with zipentries and see if it does the same thing...
