My father said that he wouldn\'t install PS until there will be an installer (because going to /usr is not \"in the manual\" ;)). When will we be able to get one (excuse me if the question has already been asked) ?

There is an installer, but it doesn\'t work exactly as it should right now. I\'m sure dfryer\'s working on it, but I don\'t know how long it may take...

Just to clarify the questions about an \"Installer\":

My plan is for their NEVER to be an installer which puts files all over the place.  I don\'t like the idea, I don\'t want files in /sw/lib or /usr/local/lib or ~/.special/Hidden/mojo.txt

What we are trying to do (and what keeps changing) is try to organise ALL the required files to stay comfortably inside the planeshift directory.  People still having trouble with this surprise me, since I can nuke my /sw directory with no trouble at all, so I wonder if they\'re getting correctly updated files.  Who knows?

Anyway, yes, eventually there will be no messing around with /usr/anything

Thanks,
Daniel

Thanks ChaOs, I reloaded everything and followed the instructions and it works!!! May I suggest though for the very terminal illiterate (I know, I was til about a year ago), that you expand the last step to include changing ownership and permissions for the copying to local/lib (changing it back to system and all that)

Anyways, thanks for all your and everybody\'s help

Loosing things from inventory - has it happened to anyone else?
« Reply #427 on: February 14, 2005, 07:08:21 pm »
I got a bad surprise today when I loaded the game. Everything was lost from the inventory, the money and items I had when I last logged out had just disappeared. In addition all skills I had trained was gone. It seems like my character had been totally reset.

This however is not the first time Ive lost things from the inventory. Another time I lost a shield and money and yet another time I lost a load of rat eyes and hides.

Has this happened to anyone else? A mac bug???

Unlikely that this is a mac-specific bug- I think it\'s happened to other people and is possible whenever they\'re messing around with the database.

Loading Plaza
« Reply #431 on: February 16, 2005, 06:04:47 pm »
I\'ve gone through the latest guide and got the game running (thanks chaos!)

I\'ve created a character but then the game (and also my g4) freezes on the plaza loading screen.

Anyone know why?

Have you tried waiting for about 20 minutes?  I found that the plaza takes an age to load, and an age to get out of, simply because there\'s that many people in there, the fps is so low.  I\'m running a G3 iMac with 384 Mb RAM and a rather poor ATI Rage 128 with something like 16 or 32 Mb of VRAM and a 300kbps cable connection, I\'d expect the loading to take longer on this machine, but it only seems to take about 5 minutes, perhaps a bit longer, but when you\'re in there, the fps, pretty much anywhere except in a few places like the DeathWorld and the dungeons, is very low.  So my advice is to sit it out, although it may just be that your computer froze.   Which MacOS are you using and what are the other specs of your machine, barring a G4 processor, for example, what speed G4, how much RAM, which graphics card and if you know how much VRAM it has (in case you don\'t already know you can find these things out throught the System Profiler in MacOS 10 (all versions), which is found under Utilites in Applications,  and I think there is something similar for Mac OS 9.)
Hope that helps,
aircon

I\'m not sure if this belongs in here or in the Guild section, but as this is the only place that I can find where Mac PlaneShifters meet...
ChaOs, I think I remember that you said a while ago that there should be a Mac devoted Guild.  Does anyone know if a Mac specific guild is around, if so, what is it\'s title? If you happen to have its web-address, then that\'d be helpful too.
Thanks,
aircon

Buddha actually made the suggestion... Ask him. ;)

I\'ve been having trouble getting into the game recently (i.e. unexpected quit after the loading plaza screen). This has been happening since 10.3.8 (no dump to console, either, btw). Anyone else having this issue?
