I\'m glad for Hally, but I\'m still locked out and crash when I try to load the plaza.  I\'ve done the whole re-install as well.  Harumph.  I might have to give up on PS, after all this time I\'ve put into it....

Well, I do have a day job :(

Gah... I\'ve tried a bazillion things since my last post... now my app doesn\'t even open (it bounces in the dock for a moment, and then disappears). My terminal says \"ERROR: csInitializer::SetupConfigManager failed! Is your CRYSTAL environment variable set?\"

Oh well... I gotta go to work now anyway. Any help, anyone? I was able to create a character last week, but now my app is not working at all. I\'ve already tried doing a fresh install, too. *sighs*

OK... Big Edit... somehow I got in. Don\'t ask me how, I\'m not really sure myself. I\'ve been fiddling with this for a while. Anyway, I\'ve joined the game a couple of times, but each time I either fell off the edge of the world and died or just fell down and died. I\'m trying to move out of the little area I pop up in, and then I just die. I saw a couple of other characters, but then I died. Interesting. Anyway, I really do have to go to work now, but I\'ll check back later... I think someone else was having this same problem. Anyone know how to fix it? Thanks!!! See y\'all later.

i did this but it still crashes after being open for about 5 seconds.

To fix it, u have 2 open with a text editor the file psupdater.cfg and replace \"xmlread\" with \"tinyxml\"...

thanks i did that and got the updater to work but after the update nothing will open with a doubleclick even after chmoding them but i can open them through the terminal and it works and im on so im happy though i hope that soon there is a version that works without any messing around.

Same thing happened to me. I get in, since I have a character already that part is easy. But then when I get inn I fall through the map and die. So I updated using the updater and the HOWTO in another thread and get in once again, but then I get a Bus error.

I checked the versions, date and size of libcal3d and find a discrepancy so I copied the new one to /usr/local/lib/ and try again.

Still a heap of errors, warnings and whatsnot. Then I\'m in the game once more and... fell off the edge of the death realm and died ;)

I then manage to get through the death realm and to the \'hellmouth\' (sorry Buffers ;) ) While loading the plaza I get a few UV position errors and such things (in the terminal - I still have to launch through that) and then another Bus error.

Next I will find a fresh version of the game and install from scratch, but first I have to get some work done and after that I\'m probably finished and can go home to my windows version which works like a marvel ;)

what an adventure

Every Mac-User should start the game with a few EXP, cause they mastered the first, and probably the heveyest Quest in this game; get it working! ;-)

Now that im playing one day, the problems didnt stop. I have LD\'s all the time. At least every 10 min. After an LD i have to restart the updater(original one) trought the terminal, and then run the game trought the terminal as well..... for another 10 mins.. Mostley this happens in big areas, like the big Plaza and bigger outdoor areas.
Because i run the Game with an 16MB Graficcard, it\'s possible, that this is a performance problem, but i recieved as well a \"Bus Error\" in the terminal.

Ingame I made one Quest (holy Scroll/Library-Quest) but didn\'t recieve a reward.. even if the NPC was telling me \"take this bla bla..\"
And as well i killed one mob (by Hand!! ;-) ) and didn\'t get any EXP...

So i think, this game needs some time to grow (at least on Apple-Platform). Hope that the Mac-Version will not die cause of this problems...

Please, read some of the other parts of the forums :)

You will find that most people have trouble with dead links, malfunctioning quests, weird EXP assignment... but that is what a \"tech demo\" is all about.

In any case, running PS with a 16 mb gfx card is .. crazy :)

It was working fine (running it through the terminal) then I died in the Dungeon, fine, went to the death realm, fine, entered the gateway... Loading Hydlaa Plaza, and noooooo. Bus Error! I tried loading into the game three more times, still got a bus error, though it happened at different times during the loading which seemed strange, once after I had taken a couple steps after getting into the plaza.

Oh well, at least it worked for a little while, I should be happy it worked for me at all, since it looks as though many mac users still can\'t get on.

I noticed several others reporting Bus Errors...Is there a solution for this, or are we just waiting for the new distro still? What\'s the eta on this if anyone knows?

Right, thanks everyone, hope to see you back in Hydlaa soon

(@16mb GC).
I wonder if i can buy a usual pc-graficcard or if I have to buy the expensive stuff from the mac shop. Are there special graficcards needed for mac?

Nope. :P

It\'ll get made eventually, but it really isn\'t a priority now. A working game comes first. ;)

that\'s kinda what i thought.  i\'ve been playing around in the pssetup.cfg file, but it doesn\'t really make much difference anyway.  i probably need a new computer to run this game.  i have a 500mhz G3 w/128Mb RAM running OS 10.3.8.  Another issue i ran into was the fact that none of the onscreen text is legable.  all the words show up as white blocks.

And another one

Let me just be the first to say Huzza! They updated the client version again and the mac client, after a successfull upgrade, is still one version short. One piece of advice for the developers: at vikingmud.org we have one test server and one working server. When something works on the test server it is released and the working server gets the newest working version of the server software. Same principle at where I work - we first develop a working client that will work on most server versions and then  switch server versions when the client can cope. Here this would translate into: When there is a working client you switch. The client should be able to handle several different versions so you can ship a new client while the server is still the old version. The server should say which version it wants and the client should conform to the servers wishes, failing as it does now when there is no version new enough. But the client should be ahead of the server, not the other way around. A static client and a static server is a lot less complicated but alot more hassle.

Just a though; not ment as an angry note.

Guys,
pls do it fast! why mac users have to wait 2 weeks more than others just because the server updates before all the clients are ready?
Hope you will finish fast...
