Or even better - make a binary that makes updating the binary redundant.

Yeah, give dfryer a break...

It\'s just him working on it at the moment (to my knowledge), and I think I read somewhere he\'s a university student... i.e. lots of work outside of writing code for planeshift.

We just have to be patient, and perhaps next time, the devs wont update the server until all clients have been written for it, not just PC and Linux.

Anyways, thanks... just my two trias,

Xirius

(sorry about the two trias thing, it\'s pretty bad, I know, hehehe)

updater....
« Reply #527 on: March 02, 2005, 06:38:18 pm »
i\'ve noticed that the updater always says that it has a new version and that it\'s going to fetch it.  seems that it\'s never actually updated though.  is there a newer one out there that should be replacing what i have?

The updater version-checking code doesn\'t really function on the Mac, as far as I can remember.

Ace6879: Running PS on a computer with 128MB RAM is insane.  In-freaking-sane.  Wack.  Loopy. :)

IIRC, Hydlaa plaza alone takes >256MB to load...

Sorry that the server version has changed, I\'ve been really busy with school and not so busy with Planeshift.  I\'ll see if I can get something up Soon (tm)

You don\'t need to move libcal3d.10.dylib anywhere. You need libcal3d11.dylib. For more details, look here:

But... all this is still irrelevant until the \"correct version\" thing is solved, right? Are we waiting for an update? My PS was running fine this past weekend, but now it says I\'m running the incorrect version.

Two things:

1. As I\'ve said, Dfryer drinks for free in Los Angeles BUT
2. As I\'ve also said, I\'m going to blow up his head with my incredible psychic powers if he doesn\'t hurry.

Can i make a Suggestion
« Reply #534 on: March 03, 2005, 02:34:54 am »
Its clear to me that versions of the Mac system are not being completed or have minor link and missing files. This can be caused in a over sight by the person who is creating the image, becuase file structure can get very complicated. And it works on the devs systems becuase all the files needed are there.

So the dev releases a disk image that is not complete and will not function on others systems. So my suggestion is that if you are creating the latest version of this game for download. Is this:

Create 2 Partitions on a drive one for Mac OSX 10.2.8 and 10.3.5. and install a fresh copy of these os\'s. Create a image of both drives before PlaneShift touches it, so that you can quickly back up to a the fresh installation. Use these Drives to test the finished product to identify any possible problems. When your test is complete wipe the drive and back it up from the fresh installation image. So you may use these for a fresh test a later date.

why dont they
« Reply #536 on: March 03, 2005, 11:16:00 pm »
ok,i read and had the fuss, and have tried it all and it take me forever,(like 2hours) to get this game to work,if your all so smart in making it work why dont they just put up a new dmg on the game that has everything, and everything gets downloaded where it should go,thats my question and im not going to do all this over to \"try\" to just get this game going it should be to the team that they make an updated version with all of this stuff already done.

  who agrees?

you would have realised that they are fixing the problem, but It Takes Time!!! And it\'s only a bloody alpha tech demo...i.e. bugs.

Sorry, don\'t mean to be harsh, but we are all waiting, I don\'t think it works for any mac user so it\'s not just you. The new client should be up soon, just gotta be patient.

Unfortunately, it appears that there is no \"team\"... only dfryer, who is awesome enough to work on it in his spare time.  If you want him to work faster, I\'m sure he accepts personal checks ;)  But as long as he is working out of his personal goodwill, I\'m grateful for whatever he can deliver.
