Deathlink:  That\'s exactly what I\'ve been trying to do, only it makes sense to test things out before we finalize them.  I know it sucks to wait and all, but with the Planeshift server being a moving target I don\'t want to upload a new, complete .dmg and say \"there! It works!\"  since it very well might not.  Several days ago (before the versions changed) one was uploaded, but I don\'t think it even made it on to the website for download.

With regards to testing, yes, it would be swell if I had a clean OS 10.3 install to test on, but I don\'t... oh, except I just bought a mac mini :)  This might make testing a little easier but I really, really don\'t have the time or patience to do clean system installs every time I build & test planeshift.  Most of the link probelms/file-missing problems are really old now, and people are still struggling with them since the only available distributions are, well, Really Old.

Like it or not, anyone who wants to play the game on a Mac right now is The Testing Crew :)  If it works for you, fine, if it doesn\'t, then, well, wait!

Hey dfyer

How about floating a mac mini my way?  I could use a really cool backup \'puter.  :)

dfryer,

I know there has been a lot of griping in this forum about all the stuff that doesn\'t work, but just want you to know that we are all EXTREMELY grateful for what you have done and what you continue to do.

As a grad student (with a family) I can relate to how busy you are, and as a very poor one I wish I could afford to send you a $$ thank you but can\'t :( .  However, I hope just these kind words of gratitude will at least brighten your day a bit.

Thanks,

melguin

I\'ve followed all the steps in the startup guide, updated via the alternate updater, and I can get the start screen up, with the cool music. :D
Version number reads 0.3.007
Local host fails, and Laanx is pinging, which I select.  When I enter my id and password, I get the message \"You are not running the correct version of Planeshift for this server.\"
Do I understand correctly from the threads that I\'ve done all I can do and need to wait for the server to be updated?

I\'m on a Mac Powerbook G4 1.67GHz, 512 MB RAM, OS 10.3.8

Thanks - sorry if the answer is somewhere in the threads.  I\'m a total newbie.

Ananda

If your getting that far then all you have to do now is wait for an update to psclient.  Either watch the thread for an announcement or run your updater.app every three minutes like I do.  :)

Cool and thanx.  When I run the updater it says:

Welcome to the Planeshift updater version 1.0.2.3!
Downloading registry...
Couldn\'t load downloaded register!

Does that mean the update for psclient is not available yet, or is something else wrong?

Ananda, that means that you are double-clicking the updater and not running from the terminal.  At this time, it only works from the terminal.

You need to check through the thread for the instructions to run from terminal, the info is aplenty.

I did all that was known as but psclient does not launch out (even with the open Terminal!) Here the error message when I launch the application Console :

\" SCF_WARNING: class planeshift.sound.soundmanager (from /Applications/PlaneShift 3D/pssound.csplugin) has already been registered in the same context `app\' (in /Applications/PlaneShift 3D/psclient.app/Contents/Resources/pssound.csplugin)
Crystal Space for MacOS/X 0.99 r0 [MacOS/X-powerpc-GCC]

ERROR: csInitializer::SetupConfigManager failed!

pierrpo...looks like the vfs.cfg file is incorrect.  At least that has been my experience with the \"environment\" setting problem.  You need to find ChaOs\' Guide to Installing PS for Mac OS and use the file from there.  If you think you are using the correct file, then review the thread and review what you did.

But be aware, no matter what you do to get the client to work today, it\'s still not going to work until client and server versions match.  Its not clear right now when that will be.  Sooner than later, I would think.

I really don\'t feel like wading through the endless threads (there are like, 30 of them), so I\'ll just ask my question and hope it gets answered here: I\'ve done everything, and I get to the connect screen, and it says \"don\'t have the correct version bla bla bla\". A routine I am sure you are all sickly familiar with by now. How can I fix this, if at all? This game really intruiges me. Anybody?

No playing yet. Dfryer is working on the Mac OS X update. He\'ll be done soon. For now, just sit tight and wait.

So how will we know when it\'s ready to play? Will there be another update we\'ll have to download, or will we just have to routinely open the program and try and log on? I mean, given the free nature of the program, that\'s not too bad, but I\'m just curious.
