I agree, wings3d is the simplest 3d modeling program out there, and it has some of the best modeling capabilities too, so learn to use it or die! j/k :D You might also want to try blender or aztec 3d tools, or milkshape, or moth, or mops if you are on linux.

Note: these can\'t be used for ps contribution, except for blender.

Milkshape can be used, and if aztec can work with common 3D files it can be used too

Blender off course! asking that to a linux fan is a silly question...

I believe Blender is open source

indeed it is, I am not sure if aztec can export to anything used by blender or 3ds max, but it can export to quake :D , so who needs cs exporeters?

Start with Wings3D (hell I recently discovered wings, it is so easy to use) then move to Blender (can import files made in Wings3D) to enjoy advance features and animations.

They free and open source.

You can also use Wings 3d for PS you just have to export it into 3ds-max files. (It is possibel I know)

Anyways Wings 3D is pretty simple, even I (the greatest noob at modelling) have made some pretty quite good weapon models. (Maybe I should post them here)

I want to be a flame, to crumble to ash, but never ever burnt.

I want to rise higher, rise up to the heavens, but sink, just sink down deeper and deeper into nothing,

I want to be an angel, a chosen, a devil, but I am just a creature that ever wants what it wont get.

indeed you should, if they are low polygon, put them in the simple 3d models thread. Then we will have 3 contributors in there : )  yay!

i suggest 3d studio max version 5 or 6.  It \"is\" free if you download it from a fileshare programme.

i taught myself with no help.  and it is good and free(free sorta) lol

the only good programmes are the good ones. sounds like a stupid sentence but its true.

isn\'t that pirating? :D or get the student version for free, it saves in its own file format, and can\'t export any others, but there are ways... there are ways to get it to export a .3ds, which can be used by an modeling program worth anything.

davo: Don\'t encourage people to pirate software.  Don\'t do it here at least.

Thenior: Gmax has a 3ds exporter?  I\'ll believe it when I see the link.

Jelly: \"Student Version\"s of software must still be paid for.  They just charge you less.  The only free version of max floating around out there is gmax.  Yes, there are md3 and (I\'ve heard) smd hacks out there, but both require milkshape which is not free and bugs up the exports.  I can tell you from first hand experience it is just a mess.  Wings and blender are the way to go with free programs.

If BlackRose is having problems learning wings then I doubt he will have better luck with more complex things like max.  BlackRose, seriously, visit the wings3d homepage and look at the \"learning wings\" section.  There are plenty of tutorials there.  If you need help with termanology there is a link to an excellent glossary in the contributing sticky.
