A good point, but I think that after hundreds of years, the Kran would develop some sort of immunity to the extreme sounds of metal against their sheet rock exterior.

Ok  take a look again it sais they PERCEIVE sound through vibrations  not HEAR. Remember not to think about it as if it was like normal hearing. Actualy MANY real animals sence their environment through the surrounding vibrations transmiting through their bodies. It isnt a big deal nor a mystery. Just like how bats \"SEE\" by using SONAR ... they dont actualy see that way but they do have a very percise understanding of their surroundings. DOlphins dont SEE with their SONAR either  they use their eyes to see but the sonar helps them mentaly immage their surroundings. I see no reason why Kran couldnt \"Hear\" through internal vibration sencing. Evolution.. its a wonderful thing

Yes but if you blast sonar at either animal, it stuns them.  :rolleyes:  That\'s the whole point.

OK perhaps my Dolphin Sonar analogy was a bad one as it deals with using sound for vision. We are talking about sound for hearing. When I car sneaks up on me in the street and then Honks I dont pass out from the sound it just startles me. Likewize bone conduction is used for hearing in Humans under certain situations and with certain devices. There is no reason to think that a loud sound or getting hit with a mele weapon would make a Krin stunned anymore than a gunshot sound would make you pass out. it would just be annoying and might slightly deafen you for a moment. As the Krin have probably been hit numerous times over the milennium it is certain they they have adapted their sound sencing mechanism so that they do not suffer severe ill effects from it. In fact sencing sound vibrations through bone, or mass conduction, is a much safer way to perceive sound as it is not localised in only one area such as the extreemly fragile human ear.

Thats because a gunshot isn\'t terribly loud compared to other things that humans can be subjected to. For instance, there are beams the government is working on that shoots a radio beam in a concetrated field. This is used as a non fatal weapon and will stun the target. I think that\'s what everyone has been refering to when they say a kran would be in alot of pain after hearing richochets across his body repeatedly. Also there are lots of things that people do in everyday life that will make them pass out, for instance men working on aircraft carriers don\'t just wear ear protection so they won\'t go deaf. They wear the stuff because the extreme vibrations from SOUND can cause dizzy spells and disorientation as well.  :O

Kixie, humans didn\'t develop in an environment where we had to deal with sounds like that. It\'s a relatively new phenomena we\'re unaccustomed to.

But Kran would have developed in an environment where they would get struck by various objects. They would have had to evolve a defense to this long ago or they would have become extinct.

The loudness on a logarithmic scale is one possibility, another is that their \"hearing\" is not as closely tied to their mind as our senses usually are (meaning that they may \"hear\" the impact at full volume, but it\'s only their hearing thats affected - they can otherwise disregard it). They might also just be able to switch it off (but this would mean the a surprise strike would still stun them, so this explanation has gameplay consequences).

Krans should have an easy time hiding as a rock, maybe achameleon feature to look like a common rock and hide in plain sight so to speak

Please don\'t forget that Kran were created, and thus didn\'t evolve into what they are. This however just means that their creator, Talad, would have to have thought about these things, even though the creation process of the Kran was a bit... unconventional, so to speak.

I don\'t think so. After all, how much did humanity evolve in the millenia of it\'s recorded history? Not much at all, AFAICS, especially when it comes to this sort of specialised function.
