I\'ve played many games and participated in several beta tests, and I offer this as my experienced opinion: the Macintosh version of Planeshift should not have been released yet. Not as beta, not even as an alpha.

I have two major problems first:

- There is no ****ing setup application. There\'s a setup file, but very few end users have the know-how to edit it manually and not screw something up. I personally am in dire need of a way to adjust the graphics setting, because as it is I\'m averaging 5-8 FPS on my Radeon 9200.

- The libcal3d.10.dylib file is not installed in the correct location to run the game, primarily because there isn\'t an installer. It\'s just copy to desktop and run, straight off the disk image- or so most would think, unless they checked the forum. There NEEDS to be an installer.

And a smaller issue; the text in the character creations screens is hard to read. Tricky font to begin with, then medium text on the medium backgrounds results in a lot of unreadable sentances. A simple black fade box behind paragraphs could solve this entirely.

I suggest integrating the setup application with the game, too, since it would make things a lot simpler to see the effects of your changes as you made them. I don\'t know how much effort this would take, though, so I have no right to insist on it..

I can tell this has potential to be a great game, and it\'s because of my love for the open source community that I\'m posting this (ie: don\'t flame me, I\'m just trying to help).

This version is out because of all the demands on it.
Even if this client is not ready yet, it is a pleasure to try it ! :)
(Thank you for this release !)
In the open source world the sources is available from the beginnig of the project, you don\'t have to play if you want to wait for a final version ;)
But the developpers are not payed to program PS so it takes a lot of free time to work on it... Maybe you played beta version of commercial games witch are released when only several bugs are remaining...
Don\'t be so rude at them ;)

Yep, people wanted to know where it was at, so now they do.

With regards to a couple points - the fact that libcal3d needs to be moved is a bug, not an intended configuration.  In the future, it will remain self contained.  I did not want an installer for this express purpose.

I\'m really too lazy (or maybe busy) to fix and ship pssetup.  If you\'re that desperate at this point, learn to edit .cfg files.

I appreciate your input, but yes, we know there is problems.  I became aware of the libcal3d problem almost immediately, but the current mode of operation is more geared toward finding and fixing problems than providing entertainment - once everything works perfectly for me I need to unleash it on you guys to find out what\'s still screwed up.

New version with a few fixes once my client stops crashing whenever I target!  Until then, enjoy what you can.

Thanks,
Daniel
