CB Linux Installer, finally done
« on: January 13, 2005, 06:09:21 am »
I wanted to make it ready until the release of CB, but it didn\'t quite work out as planned. But it\'s finally there, the nice and pretty CB Linux installer!

It worked on Slackware, Arch Linux and Debian so far, and there is a good chance it will run out-of-the box for you. However, this one doesn\'t come with the full art, you have to run the updater first to get the remaining art. The installer creates 4 symlinks for the client, setup, updater and uninstaller, so be sure to not uncheck that option ;) Furthermore, it doesn\'t create menu entries for KDE/Gnome although the option is there. It wouldn\'t work properly anyway (the KDE entries go to \'lost&found\' and the Gnome ones are not created at all). Blame the Loki installer for that :P

Current client version in Installer: 0.3.007-1
Updated on: 20th Feb. 2005
Current client version in Updater: 0.3.009-1
Updated on: 26th Mar. 2005

Download: PlaneShift_CBV0.3.007-1.x86.run (248 MB)
MD5 sum: 96ff91284457074e403c01b9d6807b93

Bittorrent tracker: http://mortalsaviour.de:6969

Download it, use \'chmod +x \' to make it executable and run it .

Minimum Requirements (these values are from my own experience)

Hardware:
- 1Ghz CPU
- 384MB RAM
- Geforce2 class graphics card

Software:
- linux distro with glibc 2.3.2
- xfree86 or x.org  X-Server
- gtk (for the installer)
- curl
- bunzip2

Important!

The current binaries are no longer compiled with debugging symbols, their debugging capabilities don\'t seem to be used by most people anyway
If you have a previous version of the installer (0.3.007-1 or older), get the new updater package here: http://www.mortalsaviour.de/download/updater-1025.tar.bz2
Extract it into your PS folder and run the updater. It will download the new binaries and start the regular updater to fetch art updates.

List of confirmed successfull installs
SUSE 9.1/9.2
Fedora Core 3
Debian stable/unstable
Slackware 10
Arch Linux 0.6/0.7
Gentoo
Ubuntu unstable
Mandrake 10
FreeBSD 5.3 (linux emulation)

Check this post periodically for updates :)

Is possible to install PS without access to root acount? I can\'t get rid of
Code: [Select]
DLERROR (/var/mnt/eva/home/users/xm/xmensi11/Planeshift/xwin.csplugin): libXxf86vm.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I placed libXxf86vm.so.1 and symbolic link libXxf86vm.so.1 into ~/lib and export LD_CONFIG_PATH=~/lib.

Any suggestions?
edit: I should export LD_LIBRARY_PATH :D

Now I need set up proxy for updater as my colledge block http to net...

Try the gentoo cvs build howto for that export:

Linux Installer is roughly 52MB and you will need to download another 179MB of art files.

Off-topic:
You can set proxy for psupdater updaterconfig.xml section ... :D

You have to create the shared lib and the symlink in /usr/X11R6/lib, or if you really don\'t want to do that, you can copy these files to your install dir, because the scripts created by the installer are already using LD_LIBRARY_PATH pointing to it.

Edit: typos

Hello.
I\'ve got some serious problems here.
I installed PS:CB using the loki-installer and copied the whole art from my last CVS-Build into the new dir.
After running the updater I started psclient. The Login-Screen looked fine and i loged on.
In the \"Character Creation\"- Screen i noticed that my Kran wasn\'t shown in the preview-window. I ignored that and started the game. Now, after loading the world I dont\'t see anything, exept the controll-panels, my mouse draws a trace on the screen.
Any hints?

Some art seems to be missing. Run the updater again, maybe it left out something. If it says that everything is up to date, run psclient with the -verbose parameter and post the output from the shell. This should give some hints.

I can just give you a MIGHTY HUG! :)

I just finished downloading the installer, did chmod +x, then ./cb-installer.run

Ah, the installer popup window is so cute. Linux really does need such a friendly installer as a default way for distributing games.

Clicked Start at the end and the updater starts and I also have a mouse pointer now!!!!!

Thanx,

You our hero! :)

PS: The installer, is it a special tool, or did you create it yourself?

OK, updater says that all files are up2date. The output of \"psclient -verbose\" is extreme huge, so i\'ve posted it on my webspace.
I don\'t want to jam the forum\'s template :)

The errorlog can be found here: http://www.chaoslab.de/psclient.log.txt

BTW: It\'s seems its only the output of psclient, whitout -verbose. I couln\'t manage to pipe the verbose-output to a textfile.
\"./psclient -verbose > error.log\" din\'t do the trick.

Thanks for your help!

The installer uses the loki-setup which can be found at http://www.icculus.org
Many games are using this tool!
An good example is http://www.liflg.org, the \"Loki Installer For Linux Gamers\" - Projectt, where you can find a quite large collection of  installers for linux-games.

Exactly the same problem here. And the updater cannot find new files either.
