/usr/local/games/Planeshift/updater: line 63:  9682 Bus error

Nasty thing is, this crash occurs while downloading through vfs.so. Which means I must replace vfs.so before updater will run again :\\.

Bus error? IIRC that\'s a hardware problem crash.. Not absolutely positive though..

Try memtest86+ on your RAM :)

No, \"Bus error\" on some systems (Macs IIRC) corresponds to a SegFault.

...and by the way, the sound/music doesnt work at my maschine...

...the game is playable, but it is a little bit \"hardware\" laggie

(my specs: AMD 2800+, Nvidia Gforce 4200 TI, 1gig ram, and my lovely Ubuntu LInux (warty 4.1) [based on Debian Sarge] and Gnome 2.8)

Use psupdater --auto

It uses text mode updating which doesn\'t have these problems.

Well, my problem is now fixed, had to wget vfs.so and vfs.csplugin and then everything worked fine after that.

That may happened because the updater uses the vfs plugin.  So it crashed when it tried to overwrite the one it was already using.
I wonder why the updater downloaded it, it is included within the installer  ?(

Run the client with -verbose and post the output in the shell.  I already noticed that I get the music and sound effects on login, but nothing anymore in the game when playing. I\'m still investigating this, but I came to no conclusion yet.

If you want to report something or just talk to me, you can also catch me on IRC after 18:00 CET (after I got home from work) on following servers/channels:

irc.freenode.net: #blitzers, #planeshift
irc.quakenet.org: #planeshift, #planeshift.de

I now receiving a Segment fault with the updater, when it found that a newer version of the updater exists.

Could you place a newer updater file for download please.

Try reading the first post again, more carefully.

Did you install PS as root and do you run it now as user?
If yes, then the updater script cant modify the executable bits of the binaries, unless you run the updater as root or with sudo.

I just noticed that the updater moves psclient and updater-bin although it shouldn\'t do that. Go to ./moved/ and move or copy them back.

Hmm, or I could change the updater script  to set mask 777 on the files... But I have a bad feeling with this. No, better use the method above, it\'s much more safe (especially in multi-user environments ;))

Installed as a normal user.

There is no ./moved/ directory in ~/Planeshift/ directory.

I do see psclient-bin and updater-bin files in ~/Planeshift/ before and afterwards.

1.0.2.2 did not give me any errors on updating PS when there was no newer updater version (1.0.2.3).

Still getting the above error. No files seem to be moving while updater is running (had the file manager open).

EDIT:
I am using Suse 9.1.

I also notice the guy below also has the same line error (line 63) but different Segment fault error numbers.

Bus errors
« Reply #73 on: January 20, 2005, 02:28:24 pm »
I downloaded first avaible version of linux installer. Then I run updater serveral times to download art. I never finished it completely( I got to go). Later updater said new updater is avaible but can\'t update itself.  Then I successfuly downloaded and extracted this updater: http://www.mortalsaviour.de/download/updater1023.tar.bz2

Except several complaints about texture format all was fine( Perhaps Intel Corp. 82865G Integrated Graphics Device is the cause). But in middle of updating updater crashed ( sigsegv).

I run updater in automatical mode psupdater -auto: I got SIGBUS ( seen first time ) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9. I got NFS mounted home which could be the cause.
Another run downloaded about 5 new files and crashed again:
Code: [Select]
Updated  tlfunc.so
vfs.so (219.00 KB) 0%....25%....50%....75%....100%
/homes/eva/xm/xmensi11/Planeshift/updater: line 63:  3946 Bus error               ./updater-bin $*
Updating updater
Done.
Which means game over, I\'m finished :(

Another matter:
As I have blocked http traffic to internet I have to use proxy. Only way I was able to set up proxy is inside updaterconfig.xml section . Unfortunately first file updater allways overides is updaterconfig.xml, so I have to set all for each run :( .
Is there any other way to force updater to use proxy? For example modify updater.cfg or whatever...

No, it\'s not ;) Download the file manually from http://www.mortalsaviour.de/download/updater/other_os/vfs.so into your Planeshift folder. Then run the updater again.

The updater downloads updaterconfig.xml  currently because I\'m still changing it from time to time. Once it is stable it won\'t be updated anymore.
