This isn\'t the right forum for this.. But..

CVS is bound to have problems, and if you don\'t know how to fix code sometimes, you should stay away from compiling things on your own from scratch, especially projects this large.

As I said many times, give Karosh some time to update the binaries..

Yes, I wasn\'t sure where to post this, so apologies for that, but this seemed to be an active thread.

I will just have to wait a bit then :)

The current CS cvs doesn\'t work well, it\'s something with the shaders again. I will try the snapshop from yesterday to see if it works better *sigh*. Sorry to keep you waiting :(

CVS version seems to compile cleanly now (at least on fedora core 2).

I used crystal space 10/22/2005 cvs daily snapshot, and cvs versions of cal3d, cel and planeshift. i follwed build guide here:
http://laanx.fragnetics.com/gentoo.php

but installed cal3d in /usr/local instead of in source directory.

Edit: if u launch planeshift inside a shell, running it as:

./psclient 2>&1 > /dev/null

to waste program output.

may be a good performance improvement (it does on my system at least)

Still getting the strange segment fault eror that makes no sense, with no files actually being moved.

Will it be posible to run the new coming installer file over the old installation as to save the hazzle of downloading all the art work again via the updater?

Thanx

Yes, you can install with a newer installer over an existing installation. A new one fill follow after the update is complete and working. It\'s in testing now, and shouldn\'t take much longer.

The update is (finally) out!
Download the new updater plus support files here: http://www.mortalsaviour.de/download/updater1023-2.tar.bz2
then run the updater ;)
Note: Now the binaries are compiled in \"real\" debug mode and compressed. But they are still bigger than before, but it should be endurable.

Another thing: As you might have noticed, there is now another installer, which seemes to become the \"official\" one. Originally I wanted to contribute mine and migrate it into the offical repository after I figured most of the problems out (including the updater), but I guess Kronon was faster. I think it\'s useless to continue this, who needs 2 installers? What do you think?

Oh, I almost forgot to mention: don\'t activate the Vertex buffers. If you do, the client could segfault on the char selection screen.

This gives a binary which is good for people who don\'t want to have to compile, but it takes alot of work to maintain and keep updated :) The official installer compiles PS from cvs, so it isn\'t good for people with slow systems. So it\'s upto you really.

Don\'t give up yet... we don\'t know if Kronon\'s works or not, or if he will stick with maintaining it or not.

You have put a lot of work into this so it seems quite likely yours will have more staying power than his--although I haven\'t talked with Kronon about his commitment to this yet at all.

Thanks for this - I have been stuck running this with wine and cedega(whichever I am in the mood to use).  It does work find in wine, but the installer doesn\'t, so I have to copy the windows install over to my linux box. I can\'t use this installer currently because it is not the correct version.  Still - I eagerly anticipate the next version you release. :)  I appriciate this very much because building it from cvs fails for me.

The updater worked great. Thanks again!

My vote is that you keep going because it is so easy to use. Let me know how I can help.
