In my mind their is no doubt that a binary installer is a must have for PS in the long term. Linux is not only for powerusers! We need to embrace more easy to use/run apps. Look at the succes of firefox, it is so easy to use...
And I just want to add this for the devs that I ran PS from cvs for a couple of weeks, and man did I compile a lot those weeks!!! All kinda trouble, missing files in cel and such. I did way much more compiling then playing Then I tried Karosh his installer and it worked amazingly well! I say it\'s a fine piece of work and he was maintaining it superb so give him a chance!

I\'ve had massive problems with the offical installer, for some reason psclient and the other binary\'s are just not there! I\'m told it\'s a dependancy problem.. but I have compile errors whenever I try to install freetype? Anouther dependancy error?
This binary version sounds exactly like what i want - I knew i should have downloaded it first - Please let Karosh make his installer! Or lose a lot of linux enthusisam when a newbie like me can\'t even get the source installer to make him a binary to run!
P.S to firefox: It also happens to rock, but yea :-)

During the breif time it was up, I was able to download the installer with the art included. Since then I have been able to play every day. The only problem now is that recently the game starts without the info window open. Bringing up this window reduces the game to 0.00 fps, but bringing up any other window works fine. What could be the reason for this?
Other than that everything works great and I think the loki installer is a wonderful thing. No one seems to have an answer to the odd segfaults that occur. That said the one time I did get it compiled functionally back in MB I was able to compress it into one file that I could untar onto other linux machines that it wouldn\'t compile on and it worked fine.
Still - hurry up for a decision on the loki-installer. Alot of wonderful work went into this. Still, I fear I am running out of time on the version I have downloaded. Soon it will not work with the later updates, and I don\'t want to be stuck offline again.
I vote yes for the installer. as usual I guess

as for freetype dependency errors first find out what version is on your machine and uninstall it, then install the version it is asking for. If that fail, compile it from source - worked for me!

Hmmm, I didn\'t get a reply yet, but I have a good feeling about this. I wasn\'t sure if the installer project will continue so I didn\'t update anything yet, but I think will prepare a new installer package for release, to let you start right away once we are through this
This is also a good chance to improve some things.
So stay tuned

Thats great news. If there is anyway that I could help you at all please let me know. I\'m not a programmer, but I have used linux for about 2 years now and am fairly in tune with what goes on.
I hope this workes, because it solved some real problems for people in this thread including myself.

I\'m looking forward to it. I simply don\'t have the time to download and try to compile the cvs tree, even with the other script, since it always seems to take me a lot more time than anticipated. But I
am
dying to take a look at the game for myself.
Good luck.

I am so in tune waiting for your Loki installer to become avilable once more. I given up with the CVS installer not working anymore, does not produce the main psclient file at all.
It worked then stopped working, so it is definitely NOT dependacy issues.

I agree with confused... I\'m also more for the \"please-give-me-a-version-that\'s-working\" philosophy than for \"please-give-me-a-version-that-should-be-working,-except-there-are-bugs-in-the-latest-cvs\" philosophy...

Yep. I havn\'t been able to get ingame anytime recently since the old version of the loki installer finally went to version mismatch. I am eagerly anticipating the release of the new installer. In the mean time is there any way I can update the game just by building the game and nothing else?

You can build the client from CVS and run the regular updater to get the art, like usual. Or you just wait another 1-2 days, until Talad finally sends the agreement doc to me
(If you can\'t wait, keep bugging him to send it
)

I\'ld agree ^^
Hmm, who of you will get compile errors with the latest CVS? I think that\'s sort of strange...

Acraig said in another topic, that these errors should not be there, and asked me to update sources from cvs, I did that, recompiled, errors are still there, wrote that, and there came no answer...
