What do you think of eMachines.

Has anyone ever heard of them?
I just got one... And i think i would have been better off geting a Dell (and that says alot)...

Any comments on the company?

I don\'t like them at all. The computer at my moms office was an Emachine and I hated it.  Just go custom and if you can\'t afford it get a HP they are the best brand out there.  Sony Vio\'s are good too.
The brands Iv personally had bad experiances with are Dell, Emachines, Compaq, and Gateway.

Honestly forget any computer companys. Just make your own computer. Follow the instructions and you\'ll be ok. Only took me 2 months to get all my parts for mine, and put it together in less than a weekend. I have no technological background what so ever and I still got it done in that time. Super easy stuff. E machines are alright, but no one buys one to play games or do any serious work on them. Cheap easy to use, pre made, preinstalled computers. Crap in the eyes of anyone who needs any sort of performance whatsoever, but a good choice for those people who need it for simple tasks such as scanning and Mspaint sessions :P

Ya, I had never put togeather a pc when I built mine too. Its everything can be done by a minkey cept all the wires on the motherboard. All those wires will drive a man nuts I tell ya :P
I actually had to clip some wires in half because it was made to go into 2 slots at once and the slots wheren\'t near eachother.

IDK, I think most of the trouble anyone will get in is with the jumpers and installation. The rest is just plug in and play.

Hmm, I remember my old eMachine. I ran it until it finally died on me... yes died. It shut off and never turned back on... Rest In Peace...

Basically, they are really cheap computers useful for all those basics (Word processing, internet browsing). Yeah, Dell would have been better...

what to buy
1: decent case with 450watt power supply
2: motherboard without onboard audio or video
3: 2.4 ghz celeron
4: a single 512 meg ram chip
5: 40 gig hard drive 7200rpm
6: geforce 5200 128meg video card
7: any sblive audio card
8: any modem or ethernet card
9: cd drives what ever ones you want

now you can build that system with less then $400.00
i could build it for less but thats because i have the oem vers. win xp

My thoughs on E-machines? Well you asked.

They are a two year (max) purchase and toss computer for the buiseness that just wants something on a managers desk.
A: their power supplies are underpowered (I hear they are fixing that problem...in all fareness)
B: They have a grip of unnessiscary software that comes pre loaded on them and just takes up space and RAM since most of it, when turned off, whines about how your computer may not be running at maximum effeciency.
C: They use sub-par parts for, well, just about everything IMO.

Remember these are just my oppinions. I worked in a office that gave them out to new employees like they were candy and couldent understand why they were always breaking. Of course the same buisness had a nice T1 that we all used without a fire-wall or Anti-Viral agent so you can see their general Technical IQ. :P

If you shun the hassle of putting the stuff together: usually your local computer store will get all the parts you wish and put it all together for you, for none or a modest fee.
