Zellgadess: You\'re missing the point, I\'m talking about roleplaying feature.

Zeraph: Yes, those number sound fun and all, but a question: Do you remember how many problems was there with crystals bugging/not spawning and all?

:emerald: But they have already fixed that...

:diamond: In Alpha-Testing before mining they had to spawn ore & tria etc. They already went through that in CB @ first the Rats would not re-spawn but they fixed it so it should be working right now. Its just a matter of getting someone to run around the dungeon setting crystal spawn points...

Oh... well that\'s fine then. Still I think they want to make PS a bit more serious than that. Not a mini-game for kids to play -_-

Well as you said:

Spawning crystals were just time killers
Well, its just a quick thing they could implement to pass the time, I mean, people will probably get tired of doing the stuff we can do now before new stuff is implemented. If the dungeons are Challenging it makes finding a Crystal all the more rewarding & fun adding another thing to spend time on making CB not as boring before the next thing is implemented....

I think many mmorpg\'s do not have enough good mini-games  X( (@ least a great lack of multi-player ones) mostly repetitive \"side-quests\". It really depends on the mini-game. I like card-games & games of chance. Some mini-games such as archery range & maybe a unique & original card-game or two to play in the tavern (not necessarily a trading-card game) would really suet PS well imho...

Oh that would be awful. They might actually start roleplaying and stuff... and we don\'t want that, now do we? :P

Because many would leave, I\'m sure that many ppl have left & never returned from MB to CB. MB was nearly a perfect RP chatroom, but it was killing PS for lack of new features & stuff to do. This would probably be just another thing to keep ppl hoked on CB & not dump it after a while like MB (except for the Devoted Die-Hard-Core PS Fans who stuck in there to the end of MB!)

Don\'t get me wrong, RP\'ing can be really fun & all for about 1 hour or 2 @ a time, but then the conversation gets dull & you need to do something new @ least for a little bit in between until some different ppl come & it\'s a new fresh subject. :]

Actually I really think that a nice slow card game or maybe a dice game would help out RP a lot. That is as long as you can\'t play against an NPC. It would force people to come & play together & RP over a nice relaxing game of cards. You would need 2 or more people to start one of these games so it would definitely bring people together making more RP possibilities & opertunities.

But absolutely no pc vs. npc games!
If theres going to be an archery range Target Practice thing it should be multi-player also...
I think there should be more non-combat stuff to do together to encourage the getting together of people to have fun & RP\'ing while doing something enjoyable...

Apart from every other aspect, the main problem is this:
Once you put the crystal hunt in CB, you essentially make it a feature of PS. It will be increasingly hard to remove it due to player dependency once it\'s in, while it seriously detracts from the feel and goal of PS.
It is my opinion that CB has advanced beyond the point at which \"anything, anything at all\" is required, and to the point where the actual game is taking shape.

Adding the crystal hunt to PS is like adding salt to a banana. The banana is open now (CB), so the salt will adversely affect it, whereas the banana was closed in MB, so the salt didn\'t hurt by that time.

I have never herd a met afore like this involving salt & a banana before. :D

But isn\'t hunting for crystals going to be in PS in the future anyway, I mean in the form of jewels & gems. They will have to come from some ware, why not the dungeon?

Anyway I see Crystals become gems in the future & making it like were you have to mine them out of the rock in the future that\'s how it can be phased out or whatever besides Crystal hunt was a large part of MB.

Actually it would be nice Crystal deposits grew out of the ground in the dungeon & you had to mine them out, you could only mine a crystal if you found one, maybe it would be nice to have the metals we mine already spawn & the first miner get there can dig it up till it\'s gone or something. maybe you can only see certain mineral spawns @ certain levels of mining or something. maybe when they \"upgrade\" mining to the next level or something, but I am getting off-topic here. :P :] :D

As much as I hate doing this(I usually prefer 1 point of view), but both sides have very valid points.

In favor of Crystal Hunting...  Before playing PlaneShift, I was a regular in the game that shall not be named.  One of the few truly well thought out parts of unsaid game is that \"gems\" could be used to craft differant forms of jewelry including amulets that could be enchanted to do differant things.  This ties into RPing well, as there is magic and there should be some form of crafting jewelry, as we already know that rings and necklaces will be available.  The fact that the game that shall not be named sucked doesn\'t mean that everything it did was wrong, in fact this system was good.

In favor of no Crystals...  In an RP game it\'s always a good idea to keep things balanced.  Although crystals could be used in a quest or minigame, they could also be abused.  Imagine this...  A player works hard for a month to earn enough money to buy the newest weapon by performing their chosen trait, let\'s say mining/smithing.  This player makes an insane amount of iron armor and sells it all to earn the money he needs.  A Crystal Hunter goes into the dungeon and strikes it rich in 5 minutes.  He just won the lottery, but that really doesn\'t make it fair to the Smith, who maybe isn\'t lucky enough to find the crystals, or maybe can\'t handle the monsters in the dungeon.  That kind of defeats the purpose, and makes it pointless to actually RP.

In conclusion...  If Crystal Hunting is an implemented piece of the game, prices of crystals will have to be kept in check, but they need to have some purpose so that they can have an acceptable value.  They would also have to have some purpose in the RPing environment.

Ok, I\'m done.  Feel free to comment or tear this appart or whatever makes you happy.  Just like to say what\'s on my mind... :D

I am very certain that jeweler is going to be a job in PS some time in the future, were will they get the jewels from you ask? well, from jewel miners..  :D

You could definitely phase Crystal hunt into jewel mining, maybe it can even be part of a jeweler\'s job description, to look for & mine jewels that grow in the dungeon... 8)

@fken You didn\'t play MB, huh? The dungeon under the temple was the main crystal-hunting area in the previous release of planeshift.
At the moment in the lower parts of the dungeon theres nothing, its empty.

More difficult monsters could be one of the reasons that the Crystals are so difficult to get to...

:emerald: Also I would prefer that you run/walk around the dungeon looking for crystals, when you find one, you have to right-click on it & select a pick-axe icon & you start mining it, it takes a different amount of time & you get a different amount of Crystals depending on your mining skill, & yes you need a pick-axe. :D

:diamond: Actually, it would be nice if mining was something like that, you find a \"Gold\" on the wall, you need to select it & /dig or right-click & click a pick-axe to start mining...

Edit: I forgot about prospecting, if different ore deposits would be harder to see then others, your prospecting skill will determine if you can see an ore deposit/crystal deposit or not. That way a noob can\'t just walk up to a diamond & mine it unless it spawned with a low difficulty level that would be rare... If your prospecting skill it to low you will not even see allot of deposits...
