This will be my last response on this subject because I do not want to spam up Andy\'s thread.  Im just saying that I prefer to have a well thought out name.  To me a well thought out name goes hand in hand with possibly a well thought out story, hierarchy, or goal.

BTW  And being a \"blah blah Guild\" is still boring.

Edit:  Everytime I get on I am constanly sadened by the lack of creativity in guild names.  No offense to anyone who is in one of those guilds, but Fighters Guild, Warriors Guild, etc.. including ones like Paladins or Samarai.  All bad names.  But this is a relative arguement.  We both have are reasons so lets just leave it there.

Bleh, call it spam if you want.
I just want to bring out arguments for a simple name. I\'d be glad to see such guild. PS needs normal guilds, not some fancy clans. we have enough of them.

Well a guild is a \"a medieval association providing maintenance of common interests, mutual support and protection\" whereas a clan is simply a group of people that fight together so someone like Knowledge Seekers sounds less clan-like than Fighters Guild (not saying they are im just using them as examples).

That said i think its a good idea Andy and you should keep going with it.

An association of men belonging to the same class, or
engaged in kindred pursuits, formed for mutual aid and
protection; a business fraternity or corporation; as, the
Stationers\' Guild; the Ironmongers\' Guild. They were
originally licensed by the government, and endowed with
   special privileges and authority.

Organizations of people with same interests or goals are more of clans than anything else...
And my point is that this organization has chance of being normal guild, thus I don\'t see why not naming it like a normal guild... it would have bigger chance of success this way.

yes those where the names of guilds in medieval times however in planeshift a \"normal guild\" doesnt normally involve the name ending in the word guild. Infact looking at the list of guilds at kadas only 4 out of 33 do.

Well that\'s obvious, most of PS organizations are clans...

No there not. By the only thing that makes you say this is comparing the names of these to names of RL medieval guilds. however in PS one of the goods things is we can alter the course of the game and all the \"organizations\" with those kinds of names (not having guild in it) do all the things guilds are ment to in PS so theyre guilds not clans

No, actually what makes me say this is that:

When playing games where guilds and clans are seperate organizations - clans were exactly like most of PS organizations, guilds more like Arcane Order, Assassins Guild or Explorers Guild.

And guilds aren\'t only medieval organizations btw.
Also: If someone roleplays rogue, Rogues Guild would be most likely the first guild for him to check. Don\'t advice him to make some fancy names. Most of organizations like that either mass recruit or die out after 1 week.

Well this is planeshift and it is unique so theyre definition of guild might be different.

What is different between Arcane Order and others? Not specializing skills?

Yes a rogue may look for a Rogues Guild but if they are a poor guild he wont neccasarily just stay with them also he might want to be the \"rogue expert\" in a guild with lots of varieties. The name will be the difference between a poor guild and a so-so guild but even with a fancy name if the leader (and with any luck a few close) are dedicated it can have little effect in the long run

Wearing the name \"The Rogues\' Guild\" isn\'t fair to other Roguish guilds. It makes them look like they are the number one guild of rogues and that might not be true. Yes, we do have a guild of rogues and it\'s called Sword of Silence. You can search the name in Kada\'s list if you want to :P.
I guess something like \"The Rogues of ______ Guild\" might be a better idea ^^. And rogues aren\'t that vile :P, but oh well.
Disclaimer: This is my opinion and I can be reasoned with. I'm probably right, though.

Alternatively, you could have a name which is sufficiently simple, flavoured (if not original), and informative.

The Ring of Rogues, for example.
Or: The Band of Theives.

Of course, when you have a rogue guild I\'d imagine that you probably wouldn\'t want to attract the attention of the authorities, so a fancy name might be justified in this case (besides which you\'d get proper rogues and shifty characters joining...People who can ask around and whatnot).

So the question is...Is \"The Rogue Guild\" a roleplaying name or not? On one hand it is simple like traditional medieval guilds, and on the other hand rogue guilds probably were and are the exception of the rule in Guild naming.

Of course, if RPing won\'t be enforced in PS, you can go ahead and name it the \"We will kill you guild\"

Attention All Rogues!!!

And what on earth did you think we at the Moonlit Council are doing?

Any rogue charachters are welcome to join. Unless ofcourse they prefer starting their own pathetic band of cut-purses and having their throats slit some night. Thievery to be successfull must be consolidated and run like a corporation and under the guise of one.

Join with us children of the Night. We don\'t dream of ruling the world but we sure want to make the most of what it has ;).

We will steal and sell, assasinate and waylay, loot the caravans and the fat merchants with equally fat purses. We will be Scions of the Shadow, Princes of the Night. We will compose ballads with our blades. And they will sing of our deeds, they will quake at our names, they will fear. But we shall not spare. For not a single coin exists on the planes that doesn\'t have our name on it. Join us . The Council welcomes all our kin of the sly trades into its folds where they can ply their trades in peace.
