Guild Halls
« on: July 25, 2002, 06:18:07 am »
I think that when a guild becomes official, they should get thier own building. This could be used for meetings and other guild-related gatherings. When a member of a guild dies, they would respwan at their guild hall.

This idea has some potential. I think it would be necasary too if there were to be guild wars and all. It would be great fun to design a great hall or decide how to defend it best.
JESUS FREAK AND PROUD OF IT!

yea this sounds good, say you could pick the type of design your \"guild hall\" will have, such as an underground cave,a castle,a fortress,or the traditional guild hall building. once youve chosen a category, you could pick from many different building designs from that category. :D

The guild leader could also have the ability to upload the guilds emblem or symbol which would feature on the sign out the front.

And as princess said, depending on your type of guild, you could have different buildings. Well presented buildings in the middle of the town for righteous guilds or underground caves or sewers for evil guilds (Baldurs Gate style)

or if your evil yet would still prefer to have a building that sticks out (like me...lol) then there could be some kind of magical warding that would force you back if you dont have permission to enter the building.

And if the guild become more famous or in some cases infamous they can up grad to better halls or even hire npc guards during guild wars

That is if there is PKing i am still confused about this and afraid to post about it...

The idea of hiring NPC mercenaries to help you during guild wars is something that could be really fun (it would make wars more expensive but also more complex and tactical), and (wow!) something we\'ve never discussed before.  It will be interesting to see what Paxx (Rules team leader) thinks of that one.  :-)

Keep the ideas coming!

The possibility of hiring NPC mercenaries sounds great, and I hope it is included in the game. In my opinion, there should be several mercenary organisation that are willing to help the guilds in exchange for money. Some of these would be composed my elite warriors and experienced fighters (and thus, their services would be really expensive), while others would be cheaper and more accesible for guilds which do not have plenty of resources but are in need of manpower.

Also, hiring another guild to help during a war could be nice. The terms of the contract should be agreed by the guild leaders (the price for hiring the guild, the way the gained items are distributed, etc). I think this could have a great impact on alliances and the way a guild sees the other, and could be also very profitable for those guilds who are willing to fight for money.

most guilds that fight for money would probably be specificaly for that purpose,in other words, they wwould most likely be mercenary guilds. i dont think there are many of those out there right now though.

Well, what I meant was that any guild would be able to hire another if both leaders agree on doing so. I\'m sure that if this is possible many mercenary guilds will appear (there was once a discussion about a new mercenary guild some time ago I think, but I guess it ended up in nothing).

Are you telling me that if another guild offered your Dark Empire good money for fighting by their side you would not accept? :P

The only problem with having player characters be hired is that they would have to sit there and guard the hall. they would be useful for offensive attacks...

ok good point...but i guess itd depend on who we were helping to fight and whether we are in a good condition to aid another guild. mercenary guilds dont normally make enimies like normal guilds do, so they are more likely to be able to assist other guilds.

That is why I said both guild leaders should agree before one hires the other. I am sure you would turn down an offer from one of your enemies or from a guild that is alligned with good, while you may gladly accept an offer coming from an evil guild. This will encourage more RolePlaying, concerning that each guild will need to define who would help, why would it do that, and on what terms. Also, the interactions between guilds would be intensified, and the relationship between two guilds would become much stronger if one agrees to help the other or weakened if the offer is rejected.

I don\'t think there is much programming involved here: only the allowance of reinforcements when a guild requests them during a war, and the creation of the mercenary organisations, the negotiations between guilds would depend strictly on the players.
