Multiple requests
« on: January 19, 2005, 06:01:46 pm »
Hi, as I have searched around trying to sort things out, I have noticed, as many of you have, that people aren\'t conducting their own searches for answers in existing threads, or perhaps due to the vast number of threads, are missing the appropriate threads. Perhaps I am doing the same thing with this thread. Therefore they just create a new one, which just adds to the potential for confusion. I strongly suspect that what I am about to suggest is either not possible, or is an awfully large amount of work, but I shall proceed. Is it possible to condense all of the appropriate current tech help threads into one forum, perhaps in \"Newbie Help\"? If this was done a lot of the current clutter could be removed, thereby assisting any future searches. Further in the future when someone creates their own version of an existing thread, a mod could just PM them telling them to go to said forum to find the solution, and delete the copy of the existing thread. (Sorry to suggest more work for the mods) This would then help keep double-ups and clutter to a minimum. Just an idea.

It doesn\'t matter where we put information, how its organised, how many threads there are, or how many times we\'ve answered the question. People are just too lazy to search.

It\'s not that the information is hard to find. It really isn\'t. I use the Search feature all the time to find threads I\'ve lost, and it works a charm.

When people post horribly over-asked questions such as \"Where has all the text gone in the updater?\" I simply delete the thread. We have asked people to search so many times, and they don\'t, so I don\'t bother anymore. Just deleting repeat questions is alot less hassle than trying to organise something that won\'t get read anyway. :)

I actually wouldn\'t mind a good archive of all the good threads, then a mass deletion of the rest. Start with a new slate and have very strict rules for future posts, especially in the wishlist.
