renting feature
« on: January 19, 2005, 09:36:48 pm »
i think it would be kool if merchants were able to rent items for a certian period of time and then it automatically goes back to the merchant(or something around those lines) i think this would work well because then beginners won\'t have to spend hours killing rats bare handed to buy a pick... also there should be banks where you can loan money

This might actually be interesting and feasible. However, I don\'t think that the items should go back to the merchant instantly. You should have to bring them back. If you don\'t bring them back in time, then you\'ll be charged over-due charges, or if you don\'t return them, then you\'ll need to pay for it. if you return to the merchant. If the item isn\'t very valuable, you\'ll probably get away with not giving it back if you simply don\'t visit this merchant anymore, but if it is valuable, you would, after some time, become hunted by town guards and other law enforcement (including player-driven).

yea..thats actually a pretty good idea because you could have player-driven quests that makes the world all the more unpredictable and also i thought if you could have a certain level of criminal level e.g. innocent

I luv the rented items ideas :). Your criminal idea is great too and it could be incorporated to the reputation system proposed by many and myself.

It sort of makes the bounty-hunter job do-able also if you are caught stealing which we will have thief it ads to this, we have already talked about jail deciding it was a bad idea, maybe if you can\'t pay the fee we can have a certain type of death that has a higher consequence then a normal death, like a ritual that makes the death-god mad @ you or something?

(You have to remember that Yliakum people do not view death the same way as we do.)

If caught by a bounty hunter (who always takes people alive) when brought back to the city \"correctional institution\", they will probably have some of your cash taken away or something or a cursed death... it\'s funny I really like the idea that you can be a hunted criminal in one town & a hero in the next... :]

edit: Oh Oh! you can also bribe the bounty hunter / solder that caught you too...

Maybe it could actually be a system were you have good relations with certain towns & cities. if you commit crimes in one your city reputation will go down but if you help people out like catch people with a bad city reputation it goes up, however if you catch someone with a good city reputation in one city & a bad in the other, your rating can go down in the town in witch he is a hero...

It could be a bounty hunter on bounty hunter on criminal sort of thing, maybe wanted posters with a name & description (no photo but possible sketch or painting from a \"criminal artist\" hey, a new way for artists to make money painting mug shots :P) but you would have to take the bounty on someone before actually being able to go pvp on them, also you must nearly kill them in battle also maybe it\'s only open pvp on them if they have a certain bad rating in that city, like you can\'t take a bounty on them from one city if you find them in another city.

That way you can both instantly spawn @ the correctional place in that city as if you dragged them there & the system can\'t be abused as a means of travel because they are already in the same sector. Then you collect bounty or get punished, after getting punished your city reputation goes up because you payed your debt...
