I need server help...
« on: January 20, 2005, 01:20:16 pm »
OK,
Next to the list of planeshift servers in the menu (There is only one), It says fail. I can\'t access the server and I\'m pretty sure it isn\'t down. I also can\'t update the game for the same reason. What should I do?

uhu server appears down

as for the updater it says that it will update itself in the background and should wait for the ok message... lol nothing happening in the background and no ok message.. so after like 30 minutes i ran the updater again and it does the same again

First things first... Soulless I think that sig might just be a little too big...

The fix for broken selfupdater is to extract the updater.zip that the updater downloaded and overwrite the old files with the new updater (It might have extracted it to updater temp, but I\'m not sure if it got that far...). Then you should be able to update correctly.

This updater is very...intimidating. With every new version my first thought is: \"oh no...fighting the updater...again!\" something should be done about this...

By unzipping the updater.zip managed to update from 1.0.2.2 to 1.0.2.3 but my happieness didn\'t last long ...today another version came out. The updater, as usual, wanted to do something in the background and obviously didn\'t do it.  This time unzipping the updater.zip didn\'t work...I\'ve tried copying the updater temp folder into the main PS folder, but that only resulted in repeating the 1.0.2.3 update ( ...I think - it\'s still running, but it sure looks that way).

Anybody got any other ideas how to solve this?

I think making a manual update possible (download a file...unpack...done)would be a blessing.

PS. What I\'m really interested in is: who\'s idea was it to make the updater do ANYTHING in the background where the user can\'t see it? At least I wouldn\'t wait for half an hour wondering if it\'s dead or still working....

EDIT: Copying the files from the updater temporary folder into the main one WORKED LIKE A CHARM after all. Phew... Devs...please make a working version of the updater for once ;)
