You say that you will lend aid in the form of troops. I don\'t see this working at all. For example, A few strong guilds get together and attack a member of URPS. To lend aid, one or more other guilds in URPS would have to join in to this guild war willingly. One guild alone won\'t do it, it would just screw them over. So everyone in URPS joins in bringing together a two sided battle to the death. :P  Now everyone in URPS won\'t join in, because I don\'t see a Good guild helping out an Evil guild or vice versa :) So nothing happens and we have your typical, all talk no action UN style organization :)

But whatever, money would  help alot if the guilds giving it don\'t mind not having it back ;)

That is a possible situation Xordan.  I would hope the URPS is never hated that much or depending on whos fault this war was, I hope a member of the URPS would never start such an unwarrented battle.  I know this will sound cliche, but the URPS does want a peaceful realm.  The worst possible solution is an alliance against the URPS.  I believe it depends on how peaceful we want this realm.  Too many other online games have been controlled by guild wars and the like.  I, we do not wish this on PS.  We want to enhance rp, and get people involved in an Organization that will bring the PS realm together.  If this situation ever happened, it would be bad for PS all around.  This would put atleast ten guilds at war... depending on how big the side attacking the URPS is.  This would not be a case where just the URPS is damaged, it would hurt the entire realm.. and it would lead us down a path that I believe we should not go.  Guild Wars are okay... though I think relative peace is what most people want... or atleast I hope. :)

I don\'t know about all of that - in the current state of the game, it would bet boring without wars and conflict.  A peaceful realm would be dull and uninteresting, and unrealistic.  Guild wars also weed out weak guilds and can make the whole RP world a more dynamic place.

That said, I have been working with airbornex on a banner for the new URPS site. After many emails of it back and fourth these are what we came up with.

Or courtesy of Airbornex a nicely modded version.

Update:  This will also be posted on the URPS site forums.
Update again: Added the Airbornex modifications one.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the flags pole was completely Airbornex\'s work.
Update: New version with shadows added in.  These are to make it appear more 3 dimensional.  The added shadows on the flag part are the work of Kuragon, who did a fantastic job.  The shadow is only applied to the top version as don\'t have Airbornex\'s to add to.

The URPS has many entries for deciding on what logo to use.  Please register at our site (http://plexus.shacknet.nu/ps/index.php) if you havn\'t already.  Then go to this thread and look at the possibilities.  There is a poll to vote in to choose the logo you like best.

Life, the Universe and Everything.

This last Sunday was supposed to be a new URPS meeting.  The goals of this meeting were broad, including finding the true direction to take the council.  Valbrandr and I had been making plans, collecting information, and preparing.  Then, much to our dismay a terrible tragedy struck.  Our so wonderfully reliable (cough cough) Internet went down.  Completely.  It was Saturday, but attempts to restore the service before the Sunday meeting proved useless.  We are just now getting everything working correctly again. I got married Friday, April 1st (not an April fools joke), and still came back in time to prepare for the meeting, but what can ya do?  Internet is kind of required.

As a result of this atrocity, we will be switching our Internet service provider.  To all who have considered it: Avoid DirecWay Satellite Internet as if it were the Black Plague.  It is basically about as reliable as a Ford Grenada (If you don\'t know trust me ? that is bad).

To continue:

Some things I feel need to be said:

1)The URPS is not dead.  I have seen posts making this claim, as well as people on the URPS chat channel making that statement as well.  The initiative continues, and will not die.  We will continue to fuel it as long as Planeshift Exists.
2)The Website.  Lishom has been a bit busy lately, entertaining some guests, and the like.  As time permits more work will progress on the site.  Until then the site embedded in the SoR site is still the official site.
3)This isn\'t exactly URPS related specifically.  But a few thoughts.  What does everyone thing about the mutation thing?  It seems kind of odd to me.  Truthfully, I don\'t think its that cool.  It appears to me that the devs are trying to find something to keep the game interesting, and expand on the story a bit since the game in its current state doesn\'t have a lot of plot  or many quests to do.  So, I am wondering... if this is a problem because of the games state, what can we all do to make the game more interesting?  RP goes a ways, but its not going to fix everything. Perhaps we can organize some interesting activities for people to do.  I\'m not sure what though.

Its just something to think about.  If anyone has any ideas about the last point don\'t post them  here.  Post them in this thread I started:

http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=15965&boardid=13&styleid=2&page=1#1

Thanks! I hope everyone who cares will help.

It seems to be a catching thing my friend.
But as you said it is not dead, I wonder if winter hibernation has kicked or if being back in classes or work has to do with the amount of input it has had recently?

The mutation thing...hmmm...I tried my hardest and do when ingame to actually try to strike up a conversation that involes remembering things that have gone on in the ordinary life thats in between quests.

URPS Moral Service could be a solution for us:):) whatya reckon?

A festival for all!
« Reply #70 on: April 09, 2005, 02:17:44 am »
Greetings again!  Important message:

There will be a URPS meeting THIS Sunday.  The time will be announced on the URPS site.  This meeting is important for one big reason.  I believe I can move us from a group of talk to a group of action.  One of the main goals of the URPS is to help improve the overall expirence of Planeshift.  Many have debated how this can be done.  Well, it wasn\'t my idea, but I have found a way I believe.  With an organization of the size of the URPS we have alot of manpower, with some great players.  A fellow player, whose forum name is Zan, has come up with an idea.  A festival full of games and challenges, etc...  It seems well organized and its not all talk.  He is doing it.  I have been communicating with him and I believe this is exactly the sort of thing that the PS community needs.  With the game in its current state, the players themselves become the content.  And if these players just run around and kill things and sit and talk and maybe duel, it isn\'t much content.  So a festival gives a chance to be a great place to make the game fulfill its potential.

Zan needs help with manpower a bit.  This would include prizes, judges etc, as well as advertising and getting people to attend.  I belive the URPS is extremely well suited to this and can help him attain his goals.

I would like for the URPS to endorse the Festival as its first official charter.  Instead of talking and electing and organizing lets DO SOMETHING.  Lets get this plane off the ground and take it to new heights.  Actions will help boost us to fulfill our potential as an organization.

Edit: Here is a link to Zans thead and a discussion of the Festival

Alright, thats great news.  I\'ll have some stuff to report, so I\'ll start preparing.

On a related note I have finished a smallish patch that changes some graphics ingame to have some advertising posters and the like.  It just makes things a little more interesting.

I\'ll be posting it tonight as soon as I upload it. So check back and give it a try :)
