From molecular to crystal blue (my first & last impressions)
« on: January 22, 2005, 08:16:01 pm »
My name is Lehhra, and I\'m an alcoholic. JK, I\'m a Enkidukai who has been living in \"molecular blue\" for quite a while. This is a story of my migration to a new release...

Few days ago i finally downloaded a new Planeshift beta, installed it and updated it. Everything went fine, my character migrated, traded his chrystals for tria and even got a ring for award. Tonight I connected to this new world and was very pleased with it. Graphics were better; textures sharper, there was more objects, better lightning, nice transparent on-screen menus... Even the Hydaa plaza was crowded. What a nice scene. Laggy but nice. I started setuping options and was soon interupted by a female of my kind. She\'s a newbie helper. Great, great, great player support. Bravo for GMs, admins and helpers, good job. So after i was pleased with my settings i started exploring the world. I bought a longsword and soon found out that my str was to low to use it. To bad i couldn\'t read that in some kind of item description or from a trader. Well, i had a lot of tria so that was not a problem. I put it in a backpack next to my ring of the past, bought two falchions and headed off to a tavern for some sweet ale and some info regarding monster-hunting. On my way to tavern I found out that graphic glitches migrated to a new world as well. Pink and green polygons were alive and kicking(and no, i didn\'t drop acid again :) ).  Soon I was in tavern. It was full of people playing dice, but i had no time for games. I came here for some info and soon the info I got. I headed off to monster infested sewers behind the tavern for some adventuring. My falchions were thirsty for blood and I didn\'t want them to wait. After a while I was there, in the dark, walking carefully trough the mud, trying to be as quiet and stealthy as possible. Falchions didn\'t wait for long: they started to swing and sing and were soon covered in thick red fluid. Deformed monster\'s body was lying next to me. My first foe has fallen. I looted the corpse and a grim appeared on my face. We, Enkidukai, were sometimes quite a savage creatures... Sewers were a dangerous place, so I had to keep on moving. In next corridor i spotted another creature and started my hunt. I was not a few feet away from it now, so I started gripping my weapons for a death blow. I swinged and .... and ..and.. and  and .. . . WHAT?! My screen went blank. Planeshift window was still running, but i could see nothing in it. Pure black. I opened task manager and saw Planeshift process running and soon it stoped responding. End task. What a frustration.

Win->programs->games->planeshift and a few clicks and I was back on planeshift server. This time I was in some dark cavern-like place. In front of me was a staircase and rocks around as far as I could see. On my right I saw a human trapped in a rock. He was begging me to kill him. What a twisted place. ...well I tought so until he told me he just found a bug and was trapped in it. I killed him (got 0 combat points) but he said he was still not dead, only lying on the floor. He started jumping and now I could finally see him. He managed to respawn, and soon jumped off from some kind of a cliff, probably trying to hunt some new bugs and glitches.. I never saw him again. I started exploring this (under)world but not for long: lag got me and my char fell down to a dark, dark pit. I struggled to see anything(I didn\'t have time for adjusting gamma in theese troubled times :) ) and managed to find an outline of a human. his name is in mist now, but I can clearly remember his title: GM. Game master! A superior beeing! I wanted to ask him about planeshift crashes and how and where was I. Was this also a bug? He asked me if I was in a trouble and needed help and I said -yes. *Poof* I was back on that staircase. Damn, I wanted to find out why my Pshift crashed. Nevermid. In the cavern I soon found a friendly Enkidukai, who told me we were dead and this was the domain of death. He also migrated from Molecular blue, so we started talking about crystal hunting and our adapration to this new world. He asked me if i had a spare sword for his friend and he wanted to give me some of his platinum ore for it. I tought he would be a nice companiony so I dropped my longsword to the floor and he started doing the same with his ore. A dwarf spawned in front of me and .... and ..and.. and  and .. . . WHAT?! NOT AGAIN?! Blank screen and soon Plshft was not responding.

I was swordless, oreless, friendless and frustrated. Two blank screens and plenty od lag in an hour of playing were enough. Enough for me to quit playing crystal blue, uninstall it and say byebye until next *blue*. I had to shout and whine somewhere, so i registred on these forums and started typing.  Planeshift project, developers and community: I wish you well and I hope to see you soon ...in some better release. May your swords be sharp

Nice story. :) Although it\'s funny how you never once came here looking for a solution to your problem, and seem convinced there is nothing you could possibly do to fix it.

Oh well... see you in a few years. :)

First, as it says this is Open Beta on the Alpha of PlaneShift, as you have already been told, it\'s buggy in some locations.

Secondly, I don\'t get why you dropped it on the ground, why not use the exchange features? (Right click and press the give icon)

I had 0 major problems in molecular blue, so I was kind of bitter when a new release crashed on me. Bitter ...and lazy :)

I tried to \"trade\" but got a message saying tradeing is disabled in the realm of death(or however the name of planeshift\'s postmortem world is)

You\'re the one leaving.   Or you could just stay. That would be the easiest solution.

In real life I minimize the possibility of encountering problems, and if they happen I usually find a way out. I\'m a give-uper, hate me :)

Please, don\'t give up!

I think PS is gonna be a really great game, but it has surely a different timeline, considering its nature.
Since I have rejoin the game after one year, I did found a lot of improvements, and yes, bugs. But, in these kind of games is us players that can help the development team discovering bugs, giving suggestions and giving useful and critical feedback, that shouldn\'t lack anyway encourangement (or how is it spelled) for such a huge, complex work!
