I shall indeed keep it up, Moogie. ;)

Thanks for posting your pics, Icefalcon. I really like all of them, especially the posters - the colours are really good!

That was the first time Frarda didn\'t post on my pics. :(

And the thing that you\'re probably not waiting on the edge of your seat for:

My biggest single peice of art yet. :D
From left to right:
Paladin, Archer, Vampire (Didn\'t have enough room to draw another humanoid) and Dwarf.

Heh heh heh... I knew a Fenki would draw Moogie like a moth to the flame...

Keep up the drawing you can only get better!

You might want to start making each character\'s stances more unique... theres no character in a character just standing there straight up like a post :) That one Enki you drew sitting down in a tree was more interesting, for example.

... People\'s backs DO curve so don\'t be afraid to draw them non-straight... You might want to try drawing a \"line of action\" for your pictures, just a quick line that shows how they\'ll be standing, with a curve or whatever...

Basically, characters should be drawn doing something other than just standing still  like a post, makes things more interesting... make them pose for you :)

I didn\'t post because I was busy being other places than around my PC :)

alot of nice work here. if i were you i would practice pants and shoes... that weakest part of your art here (i suck at them too ;( ) all of your legs/pants look very... umm blocky and straightish. pants in real life have more wrinkles and curves (i seem to tend to put to many wrinkles in my pants, which of course is just as bad :( )
other than that though, i like your style alot, very good

Clothes
« Reply #20 on: June 10, 2005, 08:22:02 pm »
I\'ve been practicing drawing clothes and fabric during most of the break I\'ve taken, using mainly manga tutorials. I\'ll post a pic when I can find one of my studies or draw a new one. Wow. my resolve didn\'t last long. :D
And I really, REALLY, let this thread die.
Bad TTK.

Well, as an update, here\'s my latest piece. While it\'s not PlaneShift related, I figure this is the best place to post it. It also doesn\'t have one of my cloth studies... but a lot of people said it\'s my best piece yet. I did the drawing from life.

Anyway, enough babble, here you go!

She was wearing a lot of mascara. But I\'m not convinced it was that much. :D

Nice! Next time, dont say its not planeshift related, say its a female xacha or ylian, and noone will be any the wiser! ;) Looks perfect to me, but then again any pencil drawing that icorporates some form of lighting looks perfect to me, because my own attempts suck in comparison. Bah, im sticking to the third dimension as far as artwork is concerned. Keep up the good work!

Hmm... I can definitely see them improving as you go along.. I would post a more constructive reply except my own drawing never comes out right.. Partly because I am a perfectionist when it comes to my own work (everything ends up in the bin)

Anywho, enough babbling, it\'s looking good :)

Well...
It never rains, but it POURS.
Here is another, considerably more gigantic, update. Quite a lot of this stuff is sci-fi, sorry. Anyway:

Classic fantasy, but I liked it in the end. And I know there are no dragons in PlaneShift...

This is a lot bigger than actual size.
-----

Further classic, a mage.

This one had the head very hastily redrawn and shaded after someone said it wasn\'t very good.
-----
and to swing from the fantasy to the sci - fi, here:

It\'s not finished yet, and I might post some progress shots if people show an interest.
-----
This is the thing which sparked my interest in drawing sci fi mechanical things - I drew it when I should have been working. It, along with the other following sci fi sketches, is based on a character called Hamish that I designed for the tabletop game of Inquisitor. He\'s mad, hence the bizarreness.

It\'s shown a lot bigger than the actual size.
-----
This was my second foray into this style of drawing, and I really enjoyed drawing it.

Hehe. Spoon!
-----
Evil mechano - bear thingamajig.

Hamish wuvs him so.
-----

C and C is really helpful, even if it does destroy my over-inflated ego.
So fire away!
:D

Nice works. There are two things that stand out, and the first is that you\'re basically flat shading everything. Don\'t be afraid of contrast, and be mindfull of your highlights as well as shadows. It\'ll bring out the shapes more, and make them look less 2d. The second thing, is that your views seem mainly orthographic. People don\'t walk around at 90 degress to everything, they\'re dynamic. Don\'t be afraid to turn the forms. The one with the feline and the mace is a good start. Another good practice is try and shade things so that in the end, you don\'t see any lines. Not everything is black lined unless you\'re attempting comic art, and then line weight comes into play.

From the beginning of your thread to now I can see much improvement.  Some things you might look into reading up on are lighting and anatomy.  I know of one top-notch lighting tutorial which you can find at itchy-animation.  Reading about and understanding lighting will drastically help you when all you have is values on a 2d plane to express 3d scenes (ie drawing).  Another thing you might look into is anatomy.  My drawing teacher recommended Bridgman\'s: Complete Guide to Drawing from Life which I have since bought and love.  Just get a hold of some anatomy material and study bone structure and muscle placement.  Start out with bipeds (humans) and maybe check out a few quadripeds (dogs, cows, etc.) later on.  I\'m still working on bipeds though.  I think knowing a bit more about lighting and anatomy will really help pull some of your drawings together and take your skills to the next level.  Keep up the awesome work.

More Dwarf-age
« Reply #28 on: February 07, 2006, 09:25:43 pm »
Thanks for the advice, peoples!
And, after a break of ridiculous proportions, here is one of my recent WIPs.

I made more of an attempt at a good pose and lighting, as well as less orthographic view. I\'m aware that it\'s still pretty straight-facing, but it adds a little variation to my work, I think. My friend is hopefully going to draw some other critter on the other side of the page, which the dwarf needs to be looking at, so that\'s why he has no pupils or irises yet. Drawing heavy armour is fun.

Comment and Criticism builds character!
