Skills
« on: January 26, 2005, 08:59:23 pm »
Hello everyone,
today i have a question: on my character sheet (virtual) i have the skills colored in both yellow and red. I think the yellow part is the maximum you can learn and red one is what you cannot learn at this point of the skill.  Well: after thousands of rats i killed i bought a sword and i ask for skill to guard, he skilled me on sword art but my skill sheet says 0... Now i have three colours on my character sheet: green, yellow and red. My question is: why my sword skill remain to 0 even if i paied to have improvment from a trainer? Is it normal or is it a bug?

Check out the player\'s guide: http://www.planeshift.it/guide/guide-skills.html

Another usefull tool is the search that this forum provides.  You can search for the subject of the question and you will probably find the answer.  Good PSing :)

You will have to train a couple of times before you will level up in one skill otherwise you wuold have a super character in notime

Understanding Skills Training
« Reply #3 on: January 26, 2005, 11:00:49 pm »
I was a little unclear on this until I had gone through it. For the benefit of newcomers like Stefano, XeNoDeMoS, PiVale, et. al., here\'s a summary:

To increase a skill (yes, I am repeating from the Player\'s Guide) you require a combination of training and specific experience. To get training, you need both money and Progress Points (PP) which you gain each time your general experience points(XP) roll over.

In your Skills window, each skill is shown with a combination of yellow and red bars; the ratio of yellow to red is the ratio of training to practice eg. swordsmanship takes a little training and a lot of practice, alchemy takes a lot of training and a little practice, and endurance can be increased strictly through training. In every case you will require repeated training and practice to gain a level.

Now, here\'s the important bit: Once you have recieved training from an NPC, a green part will appear in the Skill bar. This shows your progress towards a level increase. Train repeatedly until the green covers the yellow, then go out and make use of the skill (mine, cast spells, crack Clackers or whatever). When you do this you will gain skill experience along with any XP you may or may not earn. Eventually the green will cover the red; at this point you gain a level in the skill and then you\'ll start to notice the improvement.

There; I\'m done. I hope that\'s of use to someone, and that it\'s not too long-winded to read... ;)

The stats aren\'t really working yet. For example you can\'t do anything with your charisma as far as i know. The only thing i know is used in game is your strenght. you need enough strength to use some of the weapons and with more strength you do more damage.
and i think the stats don\'t influence your skills yet. I am not sure about that so correct me if i am wrong.
