Quicker PM's
« on: February 02, 2005, 05:02:43 am »
One thing I have noticed is that PM\'s can take hours to get through the server. Is there a reason for this? Is it possible to have instant PM\'s? Just asking, as I have seen people logged into the forums who have not gotten my messages untill hours later. Any explanations?

The forums show them as logged in up to like half an hour (or more) after they\'ve closed their browser, simply because they just close it down. They don\'t log out. So PM\'s are instant. Nothing wrong there at all. :)

But if you want to send people instant PM\'s, why not get their IM address or tell them to go on IRC when they\'re online?

Well the point is actually that I\'ve seen people logged into the forums that I have wanted to chat with on instant messengers. However it seemed like the people who were logged on just weren\'t getting the IM\'s, so thanks for the explanation.

Furthermore, the PM counter is rather ... not prominent, to put it this way. Actually, it took me a week or even more to even notice that I had a PM in my inbox, because I didn\'t expect one at all and therefore didn\'t bother to look at the counter.

Furthermore, if you just click on \"Public Forums\" in the linklist, then you\'ll not be shown the counter at all.

So there are plenty of reasons, apart from not logging out.

i\'ve had no delay problems with pm\'s :s
and the counter is a bit secluded, although you have to allow pop ups for this site for the notification window to come up

some people have pop-up blockers but then it\'s their own fault for not noticing pm\'s.

Ah, firefox has this nice bar showing if there is a popup, and I  can just let it show that without worrying about letting all kinds of other popups drown me as well. :)

I\'d rather use Lynx exclusively than allow anything to pop up unrequested. Pop-ups of any kind equal to SPAM.
