This is a problem with all versions.  I tried the linux, mac, and windows version and they are all doing the same thing.  Supposedly, they came out with the update for the client and have not updated the server to meet its specs.  When you update in either of them it will kill the psclient files and will delete them in linux, and the mac version won\'t update at all, from what I saw.  Just a side note.  I am happily waiting for this to come back so that I can start playing.  I have 20 friends I work with that are going to start playing when this issue is fixed. :)

For those that *really* want to update (and get a wonderful version mismatch error :\\ ) you can use this (link below). Just understand that I\'m not liable for any damages, etc. and you agree not to sue me if anything goes wrong. Note this is an unofficial updater and is completely unrelated to the PS Team. Ok now, linky: Updater.jar (26k)

Make sure you have version 1.4.2 or later of Java (available from java.sun.com).

P.S. You can run it in nogui mode by using command prompt to cd to your Planeshift3D directory and typing \"java -jar Updater.jar nogui\"

Hopefully this can tide everyone over...

This of course may not work in linux or in the mac version, but the windows users may have some success. :)  I say good luck to you guys and I will sit and wait for results. :)  Or the issue fixed, so that we can play with the latest client. :)

EDIT: Hey Chaos, are you able to play the game at all.. Or is anyone able to play the game at all??  Just curious, as I probably already know the answer to that question.

Here is an update message from the server administrators.

2005.02.03 Updater Upsets

As you may be aware we are experience some problems with our updater. We are working as hard as we can to get it fixed so please be patient while we work though it. Thanks!

So therefore, we will just have to wait till they get all of the bugs worked out of the latest version. :)

I sudjest you find another game. You will continue to be sick and tired if you don\'t. This is PRE-BETA!! Which means there will be LOTS of problems.
Get over it!

This is true.  There will be problems until they finally release it as a beta, I believe or get another server to run with the latest and greatest and another to run as a backup incase the latest and greatest goes down.  :)

Neocuda <--- Old programmer

If you have ever been involved with program development you will understand exactly what is going on. This has nothing to do with the quality of the server. Some of the most powerful programs have run on some of the most lame servers because of the quality of the code. Progamming is a tricky business. Even when you are absolutely sure that nothing can go wrong, many things do. I\'m sure the devs do their best to ensure that the current problem doesn\'t happen. Understand that there is a driving force that makes a programmer push themselves beyond their limit and all too often this is their downfall. Mistakes are made when you haven\'t slept for 36 hours.

I, personally, had to give up programming when I caught myself going 72 hours without sleep. ;)

I agree as I am an old programmer, well web developer, but hey, I do some programming, as far as .NET and otehr things.  That is why I stated that.  This way we can have a server that has the latest updates and one that is running the old.  That way if the updates are messed up, then we can revert back to the other server and still play.  Kinda like a testing server, as that is how I have done it in the past and has seemed to be a better alternative.  I am not dogging on anyone if that is the sense that you got from my post.  I know how difficult it is to build a game and will more than likely never do it myself.  Takes to much time and effort.  I love what they have done so far and I think they are gods for what they have as far as what they can do.  I appreciate everything they do as they have put hope into Role Playing Games.  Especially keeping everything free.  I LOVE it!!.. :)  My intensions are not all that bad, just something that they may implement sooner or later. :)

EDIT: I was thinking on a test server so that they could work out all of the bugs and then pull the update to the regular server..  That is what I was meaning..

I think you hit the nail on the head without realizing it. The operative word here is FREE! This game is hosted on a server for free. They are lucky to have it working for them. The chance of getting a second free server is slim to nil and would most likely be distant enough to be viable as well.
We\'re lucky to have anything for free in this world right now. :)

Oh. And I\'m sure there are many private test servers that the devs personally use. Still, mistakes are made. After all, they are human.

Of course.  That is why I was making a suggestion, nothing that needs to be done of course, as I think that this may cost money, and then we will all be mad at the people who suggested it..  I like your intentions as well.  They are nothing but good.  When the game finally comes back, I will have to find you and have you show me around the game a little as I will be a new commer.. :)  But hey, we all start somewhere.  I am a very fast learner, which programmer isn\'t.. ;)  But anyway, I can\'t wait to try this out.  I hope this game stays free forever. :) that would be awesome..  I can probably get everyone from Dell to start playing it. ;)
