I wonder if it would be possible to run a local version of the server on my own computer (so that I could play around in the game world myself and have GM status on it)

Btw I\'m using WinXP and I am not into dev at all... just want to goof around a little myself...

Sorry if I sounded a little too harsh or whatever you wish to call it... or well... you could just challange me ingame if you like to... :-)

To run a local server for yourself, all you need is in the CVS, and if you already have PS compiled, you should have the art files in your game folder.

Oh man... CVS... I know what CVS means (concurrent version system)... and I also know that it is a system that always has the latest version of a program... but that\'s about it... I hope there are any precompiled Win32 binaries of the server???

Quwaar: Trust me.  When you take everything into consideration, Mac is a much better way to go.  Sensus (spelling?) at one point had a comparison of 60 viruses and worms and trojans (ect...) to 1000 or 2000 that windows has.  Also mac has a nicer user interface:).

P.S.   Also has more user friendly instructions for apple products:)

[sarcasm]Also dont forget with MAC you dont have to worry about selecting from numerous games or software! Mac makes it easy to pick out software by only have 1% of the programs windows does :D I mean why wade through selecting from hundreds of thousands of programs when with mac you only have to pick from a couple hundred?[/sarcasm]

And seriosuly if i wanted to join a cult of fanatics i could do that.. i like to keep my braindead cult groupyism and computer system seperate ;)

Seriously.. being a gamer macintosh is less then worthless to me :/ same with linux (not to mention i am still trying to find linux compatible parts just to run the son of a in graphical mode... and the text mode it\'s like a menstral DOS  times a million >_< ) i wish i didn\'t have to use windows.. but also never want to use linux or mac so maybe i should just learn to code my own OS or something :P

(this isn\'t a \"woot windows\" post.. just a \"boo mac\" post n_n; )

Yeah whats good for \"serious\" work often isn\'t good for games :/ i just wish there was an OS that was more secure and safer then windows easy to understand AND had more the 10 peices of software that is useful and fun written for it :) (come on.. there is no such animal as a\"linux gamer\" and even less possible is a \"Mac Gamer\" and if somebody either claims its possible or says they are one.. they are not deserving to talk or be heard on the topic of gaming :P )

Don\'t be naive. You\'re up for a lot of pain to get a server if you\'re not feeling hackery, especially on your OS.

Well... I was merely hoping for the Planeshift community to compile the server sources to Win32 compatible binaries... there must be someone out there that just love to wade through megabytes of lovely c++ code... :-)

First off, I can call myself an all around gammer.  I don\'t have the extensive knoledge of some people, but I have found that most decent games are mad for mac and PC.  They may not be designed on the smae disc but they are made.  The 1% may be true, but perhaps of only 2-5% of the games out there are any good.

Second, everyone has that right to talk and support that you (in this instance) are wrong and that gamming is expanded beyond windows.

Also, altough not quited, it\'s obvious there isn\'t a huge linux gamin world.  In comparison, Linux is fairly new to mac and windows.

Lastly I need to hear you have proof behind your statements.  I do.  I have a mac Windows and have used Linux before so I can tell you how they operated for me and the selections.

Ok name one recent good game for MAC ;) i think my argument ends there there are like maybe 20 mac games period.. including tetris and solitare :P (realize some of this is blatantly exagerated for ephasis... but still based on fact)

Its impossible to be a solely MAC gamer and have extinsive play experience and be very knowledgable.. i\'m sorry :/ i don\'t make the news i just report it

Its possible to play games on mac.. but there isn\'t much hardware (is there even any?) to upgrade with.. so mac tends to get left in the gaming dust very fast i will give mac cred for having some of the best \"artistic\" software however.. as in making music and movies (as must of Job\'s cult is made of the hippy \"new age\" artsy fartsy types)

But come on... you can\'t look me in the face and tell me Mac will be a gaming system in its current incarnation without breaking a smirk. It wont happen.. not enough games, not enough hardware, and not enough interest (PS is mac though so there is at least one good game for MAC! :D )

Linux has crazy mad potential! but isn\'t living up to it Linux could be one hell of a gaming OS (and one hell of an OS) if it had more hardware that worked with it :/ (i feel like i\'m making a pilgramage to mecca or something trying to find hardware for my linux box XD its like \"linux hardware\" is just a santa cluase that doesn\'t really exist :P ) I\'ve only had experience in the suck awful text mode of linux due to a lack of hardware.. it looks awsome though! however i simply refuse to use it until i can get a graphic mode to aid my understanding of it XP

I agree with you on the linux computer.  It does have much potential.  I would like it to be the main stream OS but with all the windows crap out their, it cant.  The gaming portion is a bit of a down fall due to the fact that its code is diffrent enough that some of the good games cccan\'t be played.

And yes, of course planeshift is a great game.  Along tose lines, another great game is WoW.  The only reason I found PS is because I wanted to find an alternative to having to pay for WoW.

And yes, mac software upgrades are some what limited.  But it comes better stock and has less of a need to upgrade itts equipment

No one said anything about being soley a mac gamer.  I said I was an all around gamer.  I also didn\'t call myself knowledgable.  At this rate you will fit in perfectly with reporters in the US.

hahah nice attempt at a flame with the US reporter stuff :) (lying bastards XD) and i said hardware upgrades for mac are non-existent  and gaming takes crazy mad hardware upgrades..

To do what a Mac does it doesn\'t need them true... but for anything other then making music or videos or just basic notepad type stuff Mac never leaves the starting line

And last i checked i said ANYONE who claimed to be a soley Mac gamer not NARZIL get your facts straight.. now your the american reporter :P

(i am basicaly flame proof so :D )
