This may shed some light on Updater problem
« on: February 11, 2005, 08:43:10 am »
when we first started having the problem with the updater about a week ago I noticed I had bothe the MB and CB releaces installed so sence I couldn\'t play I decided to clean things up a bit I removed both instalations and reinstalled using the latest download.  After the problem with the update files on the server was fixed I ran the updater and had no problems.

Today I was playing planeshift and noticed it crashing on me quite a bit.  It wasn\'t the nice controlled crashes either the screen would just go black and when I hit the windows key to move to another window I noticed a totally blank dialog box probably one that would give me an error message eventually.

Anyway,  I decided I would try to run the updater again to see if perhaps there was a small update that could help with the crashing.  I have just installed the latest updates from microsoft there were about 5 that they just releaced.  Now the updater makes it through the initall window but as soon as it trys to load the GUI it crashes.  Now I\'ve heard something about this being java based... Is that correct?  As I was typing this I had another thought my Anti-Virus said it detected a trojan in one of my java class files.  I am going to reinstall java to see if one of the files that the updater needs was damaged by this malicios code.

Just a few things to have those who know how the program works mull over.  Hopefully some of this will help.

The Java reinstall didn\'t help I\'m going to try a few more things to see if I can help everyone having this problem.

Edit: I didn\'t think the java update would help I thought the updater was C something based.

The updater is a CrystalSpace application, so yes, C++. As for why it might not be working, there just may not be any \"good\" sources in the repository at the moment. The devs are probably working on it as we speak, so you\'ll just to wait a bit (if your other idea, doesn\'t work, that is).
