webspace
« on: February 14, 2005, 11:12:52 pm »
Okay, so I started a guild ( the Drehadaxa) and that off course also needs a website. I have been running around for quit some time now with the thought of making my own website including my hobbies, a part reserved for my fathers hobby stamps and the family genealogy, Family tree dating back to 1534. so i started making one with dreamweaver and the result so far is\'nt that bad.

But I\'m going to need webspace. For trial I will probably upload it to a free provider but looking to the future and seeing that I\'m also putting on pics of my complete comic collection. Not even halfway scanning and already 52mb off jpeg files. And I don\'t want to store the pics all over the web. And I also don\'t want the site to be polluted with adds, and pop ups.

Wich pay providers would be recommended? for say 200mb webspace!?

any good advice and links welcome

hey, you dont neccesarily need one 200mb website.  you can find good free providers wih little popups and register more than once.  then what you can do is go \"click here to see my comic book pics\" and have a link to your other website.

you could register with a free website with little space and no pop ups to have just your personal info which doesent take up much space and then have link to different 1 or 2 storage locations with pop ups.

well over 600 comic book jpegs files average size 180-200kb. a big amount of  ;( family pics i\'ll probably be blackmailed into putting on my website so grandma can have a look at them  :D

+ a shitload of pictures from the racing weekends of the european Alfaromeo147 challenge in wich the team i\'m 2nd mechanic in, wich will be competing this year. (For Eurosports fans watch the LG Superracing weekends and look for the orange white Alfa Romeo 147  :D )

And to rent te leftover mb\'s to poor PS players who need some webspace for their guild  :]  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)

Well I use a host called Sfera. It\'s been very reliable so far and the staff are really nice. You start out with a basic account with only 20mb space but then you have the oppurtunity to upgrade by earning points. You earn points by posting on the forums and refering people. Once you have enough points you can purchase upgrades with them and also other stuff like your own domain name. The highest upgrade comes with 300 mb space and only requires 150 points which isnt that hard to make. One person who has been around a few weeks already has upgraded his account as much as possible and acquired 3 free domain names! They also hold contests where you can win your own domain or more space and bandwitdth. They also all come with Cpanel which is very useful.

Its worth checking out. And please  anyone who decides to use this host, if anyone does, say that I refered you so I can get some points towards upgrading the CV site. Thanks :)

Check it Out

Ah, I guess I kind of skimmed over your post. I thought you needed all that for a guild website.

there are a lot of good ones out there, you just have to know where to look, and i havent looked in awhile ;)

i would recomend http://www.beplaced.com its 100 meg with ftp or site builder plus if you need more space they will give it to you or you could just have a million accounts with them it doesnt matter. but they have no pop ups no pop unders not banners none of the bs that i hate so much. me i went through about 30 free providers for my guild website before i found this one and this is the one i have stuck with.
