character creation
« on: February 18, 2005, 05:06:44 am »
does not work for me at all, i tried several races, and it crashes when i click next or paths, every time :(

edit: any ideas out there? is it common? did i make a mistake somewhere?

any help would really be appreciated :)

edit2: ok...i get the feeling my problem is either very rare...or has been talked about so often that nobody wants to think/talk about it again...if the latter, please accept my apologies and maybe help me out with a link to those threads... :)
if it is relatively unknown...does anybody have an idea what could have gone wrong here?

any answers would be welcome ;)

Use the updater program.

Not all races are implemented. Make sure you pick one that is.

Customisation is not implemented yet.

Like Thom says, make sure you\'ve run the Updater. Also make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date, and that you\'re meeting minimum system requirements (section 1.1 in the Player\'s Guide).

updated it again (3rd time now)

it still crashes the same way:

exception at adress  004E6535
exception code: C0000005

i tried several races that did not say something about the 3d model not being available yet

edit:

system specs:

P4 2.4 Ghz, ATI mobility Rad 9000 64MB, DirectX 9.0B installed, 256MB RAM....i know it says 512, but the ppl that told me about PS have lesser EQ and 256MB and it works fine for them... :(

See: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=14937&boardid=17

It\'s interesting to see that this problem only seems to appear on Laptops. It *could* be something to do with the Radeon Mobility graphics cards - I know that the mobility drivers are often behind the Catalyst drivers. Perhaps I could tempt you to try the \'OmegaDrivers\' - which will allow you to install the most uptodate ATI drivers even on a Mobility card.

Otherwise, the only other thing I could think of is checking the size of your paging file. If you\'ve only got 256MB of ram, I would make sure you have at least 768MB of paging-file space to ensure there is enough RAM available at runtime.

Personally, I think it\'s likely to be a driver thing - but don\'t quote me on that ;)

You can find the Omega Drivers at: http://www.omegadrivers.net/
