Economics of mining - why do it?
« on: February 18, 2005, 06:07:05 am »
I missed the big gold rush of 04.  From the forums it seems digging was easy, money came fast, everybody got rich, life was sweet.

Now, well, why do it?  You spend more on training then you\'ll ever make at mining.  I\'m a n00b.  Zero skill.  Plunked down some trias for a pick and some level 0 training (thanks to the dude who gave me the money!).  Three hours and several hundred /dig golds later I\'m in the middle of level 1 - I\'ll go 50 to 150 digs before I get something.

I\'m loosing more money in training then it\'s worth.  Gold comes so slowly I doubt I could make 300 tria a day.  Sucks the fun out of it.

How about bumping the haul amount back up - say 50?  That way I can at least haul what the training will cost.  How about making 20 failures give the same experience as one success?  That way I can climb the training curve even though I rarely see ore.  Maybe someday I\'ll get some gold.

Three hours wasted.  Well, back to the mines...

if your lower lvl dig iron first till at least lvl two or three and then once your lvl 5plu you can dig platnium and make decnt money doing it.
Only sacrifice will bring true reward.

I do agree.  The mining system is almost worthless... Might as well fight Tefusangs if you can.  The only thing it will be good for is crafting from here on out.

It\'s worthless right now because we monitor the trade and exchange systems to see how we will design the economy and mining systems to fit the game as good as possible

Foolish peasants, so few of them realise the futility of their existence.  :P

why mine....err roleplay... personally... i enjoy the common man roleplay... the heroic roleplay got boring.
but mining will be more profitable once crafting kicks in....warriors will need weapons .....smiths will need material.... miners will have it

Indeed, once crafting begins supply and demand will kick in and make it a worthwhile past-time.  Until then, its just testing.

Dig iron...  Never thought of that.  Thanks.

Will the carry amount be increased any time soon?

It will whenever they implement pack animals and larger backpacks. :)

And who says you have to mine to get money anyway? What do you think the quests are for?

I assumed as much.  It did have to be regulated because people were getting rich off of it.

Snif... Why can no longer get over 3000 trias per hour? :( This would have made MB players\' gain worthless :D

\"And who says you have to mine to get money anyway? What do you think the quests are for?\"

The first two quests didn\'t work (bugs).  The first one said \"here is your money\" and I got no money.  The second one crashed  right as I finished the quest and it may have nuked the transaction - no money on that one either.  Mining was the third quest on my list.  It was going south fast until someone pointed out the fourth quest and it worked.

mining is fun... I like it even though it has barely no benifits. Finding my way past a group of rogues and beast to get to the platinum mine is fun, and the excitement of guessing if your goin to get ore or not is cool. The profit output takes a while though... I payed a 1000 for a good pick, 10 queus of 10 platinum payed it off. but took a while...

Highlevel in other MMOGs or not, you\'re still new here. Try making some friends ingame and ask around to see if someone wants to tell you where to get the more valuable ores.
