I run it and then this happens, It loads the client but it plays no sound, no buttons, nothing just four characters and the logo.

This could be because the sound driver is broken, it seems to be trying to load DirectSound 3D which is described as both unsupported and unstable in the planeshift setup program.

Run pssetup and pick a different sound-driver, \'software\' is a good choice if you dont have openal installed.

Make sure you have run the updater as well before you do anything else \'updater -auto\', this will grab the latest art files and may also retreive the font you seem to be missing \'Vera.ttf\'.

I ran the updater and got the same errors, and the client is still the same.

DirectSound3D is not available in linux. It\'s a DirectX/Windows thingy. Try OpenAL or Software instead.
Also check your OpenGL setup, and reinstall your graphics driver.
Don\'t worry about the saving error in pssetup, it has no meaning.
