downloading on a 56k...
« on: February 20, 2005, 11:36:45 am »
Hey everyone this may be somewhat of a dumb question but here it is anyway. My computer has a 56k modem, and I\'m wondering of there\'s any way to not have to download the whole thing at once. It\'s wierd because I stopped it and then resumed downloading it yesteray, but today when I try it is apparently starting the whole download over from the beginning. So does any one know whats up with this and how I can download it not all at once?

Don\'t you know noone with adsl installed ?

I think that\'s the only one solution (if the download manager fails as you described) or perhaps hoping that the PS staff release in future a distributable version on some CD of game magazines...

First, make sure you have a download manager like Download accelator plus or something, so you can resume the download.  Assuming your dialup can download at an ok speed, (5 kbytes / sec) itll take you 11 hours, so its definatly possible if you spread it over 5 nights... i downloaded MB on dialup, but got adsl before cb came out so i havnt tried it.

I down loaded mine at school which runs at about 8mb a sec and then burned it onto a disk and installed it on my home computer.

Indeed.. I downloaded PS on dialup.  I didn\'t use wget (though I very well could have).  I used wackget, which is basically a GUI built on top of a special version of wget.  I can\'t seem to get to the official site though.. Hm..  ( http://millweed.com/projects/wackget if it will work)

All I know is, wget/wackget don\'t use an index or special file or anything, they just take the file you have so far and add the rest left to download on to it.
(I\'m just guessing as why it would have started all over for you with.. whatever else you download with. :) )
