Ideas born from boredom die quickly when you realise they\'re more boring than what you were doing before.

What I\'m trying to say is, you have no idea how much strength, determination, commitment, organisation, coordination, teamwork, planning, writing, brainstorming and hard work this will take. If you are serious about doing this, I honestly suggest you don\'t do it out of \"boredom\", but out of a deep, passionate drive inside you that has been burning and growing for years. If you do not have that.... well, good luck I guess.

(I\'m not flaming... just giving you my honest opinion. :) )

Nonesense! I have started many projects out of boredom and they have turned out.... oh wait youre right. >_<
Like what somebody said, sit on the project for at least 2 weeks and then come back and see if you still want to do it.  That seperates a spur of the moment project from a serious one.

I don\'t have any idea how to code but I am a pretty good writer I am asking if any coder or someone wants to do this idea and I am going to change the races a bit.

Im a coder, ive written a 3D-engine, but in doing so i\'ve realised how long it takes and how much effort is involved. We\'re talking endless hours at 2am in the morning mashing the keyboard when glide.dll isnt linking properly or theres an \"unknown compiling error\", or your compiler has just decided not to work for an hour, or downloading DirectX SDK only to find you need to download another 250mb for the Win API to get the F***** thing to work...  I would only commit myself to such a project if i knew for sure the people co-ordinating it wouldnt just get bored and leave, but have the comittment to follow it through..

Well i still encourage the idea.. why not write several stories? about 10 incorperating many different plots and types of conflict (remember my advice earlier)? post a few here and then if you have something go for learning a code

if you like i can give you some pointers on tweaking a storyline and concept design

but then again i already have :P follow those first and if you are still into it then i\'ll be glad to help from there... i have spent 3 years of concept design learning on my MMORPG and i haven\'t even gotten to the concept phase :) realise story and backstory take the longest to perfect and longest to learn how to do

If you are dedicated i admire that.. but if you sat staring at the wall going \"this sucks.. how about i make mmo?\" :P then i am wary but still willing to help another person learn
Warning the truth may blow your brain to shreds... Click at your own risk :P[/disclaimer]

In a mythical land far far away from this universe which is called Revan where orcs, doages(dog humanoid), elves, trolls, humans, and the undead roamed. But there were to groups. The alliance which was made up of humans, doages, and elves. The conspiracy which was made up of orcs, trolls, and the undead. These to groups waged war on each other for control. If the conspiracy got control the Revan would fill with evil. But, if the alliance does the Revan will be peaceful.

 Warcraft III?

And that is merely an idea. A story means at least a few pages, and for god\'s sake, something besides the eternal good vs evil plots you can\'t find anything?

If everyone would start saying \"I\'ll make a MMORPG tomorrow!\", well then the world of the online gaming will sure fall apart.

Yes I know, the story is the most important part of the game, but it\'s not even 5% of all the Game Design part you\'ll have to do. Besides, you need a strong team, with dedicated members to at least go far enough.

Ever thought at the legal part? You have to have copyrights on everything etc. You\'ll end up finding a good idea, posting it random and then you\'ll see a game with your own thoughts in there, launched by a bigger company.

That\'s the way things go kiddo, it\'s a business, like any others in this world, and sadly the \"passion\" from this business faded away for many. That is why projects like PlaneShift were born, projects I will always admire, especially PS, which is indeed unique.

Really good at doing something? Go help PS ...

 * EDIT *

Though, I do not want to make you give up your dreams. Not at all. I just said the facts. It\'s up to you to decide what you\'ll do.

Come up with something really good, and maybe I\'ll help you when I\'ll have some spare time.

The biggest problem is getting programmers... meh you could have the greatest storyline in the world but its no use if you dont have a game...

Actually, you can make a fortune writing a book after it, or selling it to a movie producer :P

Krayn, i think you\'re lacking in creativity for such a project and also do not underestimate the effort that goes into such a project.
Just look at planeshift. If you\'re really really serious than id advice you to first observe how other mmorpgs organized things and learn from their succes and failures.
Perhaps contact some of them to ask questions of the reasons they had for doing something one way instead of the other way.

Of course it would be great to make your own mmorpg. Personally id make a medieval non magic european setting. And later some other historical locations as well. But it just takes way to much time.

Hours? PlaneShift started in it\'s 3D state the year 2000.
That\'s 4 YEARS from now.

PlaneShift, the project, started 1994, that\'s 10 (TEN) YEARS ago.

Thank god Talad really knows his stuff and dedicates his life more or less to it.

I have passion right now. I am drawing the races.  This game willb e different instead of humans and elves. Animals will be the charactors. So, I am going to go draw. Flame all you want.

That\'s not even original. And they\'re right, just give it up, join a different one.

First of all, throwing animal body parts together to create races isn\'t original. Second of all, if you want to have fun doing some drawing and concept stuff to excercise your mind in fantasy, that\'s fine, but it\'s not worth a thread, since the project is really only half-baked.

Furcadia isn\'t a healthy model for a game.

Trust me, I was there when it -was-.
